My first post here. Just joined. Picking up my new 21 in Aug. I would like to spend a few days close by before heading back to TX and wanted to inquire if anyone had experience with the Sumas campground. I've read reviews and the older ones seem on the negative side but the newer ones much more positive. I think I read about new owners somewhere. Any info will be appreciated. Been 'lurking' here for a week or so and picked up some good stuff. Not new to TT's but never had an 'egg' before.

Welcome. After our pick up we wanted to stay close by, too. We opted for the Coquihalla Campground in Hope, BC. According to Google Maps it's under an hour away, although it seemed further to us at the time. It was our first time towing and over some pretty steep mountains at that. Anyway, it's a nice campground with plenty of nature yet close enough to walk into town. Hope this help. -Tom

Since you are a USA owner, the Escape will be handed over to you in Sumas. New Escape owners have frequently used the following (there are, of course, others):

The KOA in Lynden is close to Sumas.
We used Bay View SP (state park) on Puget Sound, after stocking up on food in Bellingham. (After a couple of days, we took the ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend, and camped in Olympic NP (national park).

Another is Larrabee SP south of Bellingham.
There is Deception Pass SP on Whidbey Island (no ferry, you drive to it on WA-20), but be prepared to enjoy FA-18 Navy jet sounds.

Edit: a valid reason to take the ferry across Puget Sound to the Olympic Peninsula, ( besides seeing Olympic NP, the Hoh rain forest and the wonderful SP's on the west side of the peninsula) is, you avoid the sometimes very, very, difficult traffic in the Seattle area.

If you're active or retired military, the Whidbey Island NAS has a very nice campground over looking the water. You can check it out online and make reservations. I was thinking about staying there but for our schedule the Lynden KOA is more convenient. :)

Like many others we found the Lynden KOA to be a very nice and convenient spot. Sumas is a very small town, Lynden is just a few miles away and has a large grocery store and other shopping where you can get anything you need to stock up for the long trip back to Texas. We spent a couple of nights there and when we headed south drove through Seattle on a weekend morning, traffic wasn't bad but weekdays can be pretty frantic.

We often go down to Birch Bay State Park in WA.It is two hours from our house in North Van.
The beach is about a mile long.Rest rooms are clean the Rangers are friendly and we love the sun going down sitting on the beach. The camp ground itself is up in the treed area and shaded but there is only a short walk down to the beach. If campground is full we move to the Silver Reef Casino for the night. There is a Discovery Pass $35 US, good for a year if you go this route.I.E. Stay at the beach for the day.
I guess people picking up in Chiliwack do not know about this area since it is never mentioned. You pretty well go straight out west to the ocean from Sumas.
Happy Trails.

I camped at Sumas and was awful. Two farms nearby and the manure smell is overwhelming!

Thanks cwood. Being a farmer that just smells like $$$$ to me

NAS Whidbey Island is a great place to stay. We stayed there in 2015 and plan on 4 days there this summer when we pick up are new 5.0. It’s the only campground we have ever been to that provided fresh cut flowers. IMG_0113.jpgIMG_0725.jpg
