Hi All,

We were lucky enough to find a used 5.0TA at a price we couldn't resist, so it's now sat on our driveway. Long story short, we were travelling on the mainland when we heard about the 5.0TA (through this forum), so we arranged to see it, then had to find a used hitch as ours was sat at home in the garage! It was a bit too far for a quick round trip. We found one that fitted our rails the same night, so we spent that night in the 5.0TA and towed it home the next day.

Lots to do, as you can imagine, seven years use shows here and there, but I like to have a project and I'm sure this will keep me busy for some time to come.

I'll be looking for lots of advice, like fibreglass cleaning, mods and upgrades etc.

My first quick mod was to add some simple brackets to hold the jack wrenches under the top step, I'm sure there will be many more to follow.

P.S. If you know anyone that wants a cheap Demco Skyjacker Double Pivot hitch, I have one for sale. :)

Congratulations on the new-to-you trailer and welcome to the forum.

What is the second wrench for? One is for the stabilizer jacks but the second? Our 2015 came with one wrench.

Our 5.0 came with two handles. One for the stabilizers, the other for operating the lift jacks manually.

Ours came with one for the lift jacks but it is just a straight rod with a slotted socket on the end, like a taillight bulb socket for an 1156 or 1157 bulb. It fits the manual lift screw of the jacks but doesn't have a turn handle on it. I've often wondered how I was supposed to turn it, thinking vise grips was the only way.

Ya, you're right now that I think about it. Thanks for catching that.

Looks like you have a spare stabilizer crank so you can afford to forget one at some campground someday;)

Our crank for the front jacks (landing gear) is a crank but just much shorter.

The two cranks have different ends, one is for the front jacks, it has an odd connection, the second is for the rear stabilizer jacks which just looks like a regular socket. Unfortunately the photo was cropped and doesn't show the ends, I'll try harder next time! :)

Interesting. 5.0s don't come with front stabilizer jacks they just have the front landing gear. It must be something the previous owner added.

I have heard of people putting a stabilizer tri pod under the fifth wheel pin but we find it to be stable enough with just the landing gear down when unhitched and a good set of Xchocks. We hardly ever deploy the rear stabilizer jacks.

Edit, now I remember older 5.0s have a different landing gear jack and they have an access port on the front of the trailer for manual operation. Is that what your second jack handle is for?

Anyway, congratulations on your new 5.0 you will love it!

That's what I was thinking too. I looked up a couple of pics of 2017 5.0TAs and it appears there is an access port on the side of the trailer about 7 o'clock to the access for the lift jack switch on the driver's side. Not sure about the passenger side.

Thank you for the welcome messages.

Sorry, that was just my bad terminology, yes, the crank is for manually operating the Landing Gear in case of a power failure/low batteries etc. There are two ports either side of the front cubbies for access.

I guess I'll get to grips with RV language eventually!

Is your 2017 an early style with the curved side walls and aircraft style door? It was 2017 that they restyled the 5.0 to have the flat side walls and door. So I'm not sure if that was all of 2017 or were there some classic models built in 17?

We toured a 2017 5.0 when we were buying ours and it had the straight sides just like ours. And I think it had the same landing gear as we have but I don't remember all the details and it may have had those ports.

This one has straight sides and two axles, didn’t the original only have one axle? Or was that an even earlier version?

Yes, the 5th wheel was a single axle prior to the 5.0TA manufactured in 2014.
