Yep! Those are the states we'll be traveling through between Christmas and Valentines day. First stop: Arizona to spend time with the grandson!

I just realized that I probably need to get some plans nailed down-reservations made. We are going to be in Phoenix from 12/26-1/1, Las Cruces and Silver City 1/2-1/15, Then San Fernando, Las Vegas, and Bakersfield 1/16-1/31, back in SE AZ 2/1-2/8 and then home to Oregon.

The locations and times are firm (I have guest in the pulpit appointments), but I haven't even begun to think about WHERE one STAYS!

I'm thinking we'll want a full service RV park/campground at least on Saturday nights (so I can shower and dress and show up at the church looking professional!) But we'd have fun boondocking (Yay for the solar panel) on the other nights.

Recommendations? Hints? Tips?

Grateful for the wisdom of experience!

Smiles,
Amy

One of the nice things about the Escape is the ability to park just about anywhere and camp, it is all self contained. We seldom make any reservations, just wait and see where we are and there must be a dozen "apps" on the smart phone for local cg's. Reserving ahead, IMHO, places too much stress on a time schedule, something camping is made to avoid.

Unless my trip is to a place where I absolutely know I will be at for a while, or a well know busy and booked up place, I don't reserve. I too prefer to be flexible, especially on a long trip like yours. Worst case scenario sees you parking the odd night at a Walmart, or some arena parking lot.

Hope we see you at the Quartzsite gathering since you'll be right in the area. It's free and no reservations required.

I assume "guest in the pulpit" means you are preaching at a church. Most towns you can stay a night or several in the church parking lot. Maybe even run a 20 amp extension cord.

Amy, there is a good chance you will have freezing temperatures in New Mexico. You might need to open the cabinets some nights to keep the lines from freezing. Need to make sure you have plenty of propane for the furnace if you are boondocking. You probably do not have spray foam but maybe you have the insulation package. You can have a problem in NM.

YIKE! Thanks for the heads-up Cathy! Yes, it says the average low is 29 in Las Cruces in January.

hmmm. I suspect we do not have spray foam. Time to do some investigating!

Thanks

I'm hoping that a church parking lot will be an option for some of the congregations! Though... We are new enough to the trailer that I still have apprehension about getting a decent shower when not hooked up to water... (Though, now that I think about it. A long enough hose would solve that problem...)
Such an adventure!

Thanks for the headsup on the Quartzite gathering. I assume I can do a search in this forum for more info?

Good thought. Brought down my anxiety a bit. Thanks!

The challenging week will be the week with our son (who thinks it is a fate worse than death to sleep in the trailer with his parents - he's 30) and our grandson. So we'll be needing to have a tent with us for the week between xmas and new years. In Phoenix...

:)
