Outside stove vent fell out

Was cleaning my 2017 5.0 and when I undid the outside stove vent it just fell out.....can't figure out how it goes back in. Any suggestions?

Or and I’m not being critical here, is it the door that flops
Down from the water heater, which is led by two sheet metal maybe a quick single photo Would help?
Screws that can work loose over time.

Thanks.......I'm terrible at specifics..its the flappy door that vents the stove whilst cooking.....I just can't see how it attaches or why it would detach.

Well now you got me. I’ve not heard of one falling off although I’m sure it happens. Those little friction tabs
That let it flap open are suspect for sure and I know folks have replaced the vent setup and the vent fan.

Hard to see how the flap could have come off with the cover still in place unless one of the little plastic tabs on the flap broke off. Normally to remove the flap you have to first remove the cover, then there is enough room to gently flex the flap and move the little tabs in from the sockets on the housing that hold them and hinge the flap in place. The cover has little tabs that hold it in place, you pry each side out to lift it up - but it is generally caulked in place so it won't just pop off.

Do you still have the flap? Look at it and see if the little plastic tabs on each side at the top edge are still there or if one is broken off.

Check to see if the "pins" are still on the outside top of the flap. They fit in holes in the frame. You can bow the flap to reinsert it if the pins haven't broken or worn off.

If one pin (or even both pins) has broken off, you could try the fix that I successfully used.
I took a piece of steel wire (or stiff copper wire might do), heated it, and
immediately pushed it through the bump in the outside housing and into the end of the flap right where the pin had broken. It melts the plastic easily.
It's a temporary fix that has been working for at least three years.
It might help to drill the bump in the housing first, at a diameter slightly smaller than the wire. A #60 drill would work with 18 ga.

Hi: algonquin50... I broke our classic style vent hood with my wash mop. It sits outside facing the sun getting more brittle every day. I bought a new one, cut to fit wall thickness, and spray painted it with Krylon in dover white for UV protection. I also added some nylon screen tabs and SS bolts/washers and Nyloc nuts to replace the flimsy plastic ones. Makes a simple job more complicated... but better!!!
Now you just have to remember to open it before turning on the fan. Alf

Our vent just came off too. Those little nubs are tiny and I am surprised they lasted as long as they did. Thanks for the ideas on how to fix it. We stopped at Camping World and they wanted to sell us an entire new vent!

Hi: P&L... The new plastic vent hood was 10 bucks. The spray paint was less than ten and the bits-n-bobs I had laying around from other "Hunny do" jobs. I used a hacksaw to trim the depth of the hood to match the thin walled fiberglass trailer and applied a strip of caulking around the edge. Took longer than it was worth... but worth as long as it took!!! The old one was 7 yrs old... the new one might just outlast ME!!! p.s. You can only add the screen tabs and S/S bolts and nyloc nuts before installation. :whistling: Alf

Thanks. I got a can of the Fusion in Dover white and painted it. Also the cable tv connection cover, since it had yellowed also. Frankly I still had some doubt, until I started masking the area with sheets of copy paper and observed how much whiter the paper was than the trailer! Regular white would have looked strange. (I think black would have been a good option, though.)

Hey, one of my tabs came out and is long gone. The other tab no longer stays in place on the flap; maybe the Krylon paint was too slick or something. So the flap freely flaps during travel. I don't want to lose the flap; is that a real danger? Does anyone have an idea how to add a new tab without removing or replacing the entire assembly (like Alf did)?
