owner's map..

This is what forum admin told me:

The problem with this map is that while we can link to it, since the forum didn't start the map, we can't edit it. Only the map "owner" can. So long as he's willing to do that I'm ok with it....

Nothing we can do - baglo

Actually, the problem is, anybody can edit it. While there is merit to this, as people can set up their own place on the map, they can also inadvertently mess something up too. Plus, if someone wanted to be malicious, they could do lots of damage.

Not sure, but is a backup done on it with any regularity?

Maybe what is needed is a 'Map Master', whether an admin person, or someone else, who has sole editing powers over the map. The only issue with this is, that they would have to add or edit all the map details.

I think the map is a really cool thing to have, and would hate to see it get destroyed.

Changes you make to the model colors affect all users of the map. It would be nice if the colors and setup were left according to the list which is posted on the map. Red=5, Navy=21, ...

I agree. They have been changed so that there are a couple models per colour for some reason.

Sounds like a good idea . We can't figure how to pin on the map anyway . We don't like going through goggle and signing in . We sign in to the Forum already.

I'm the one that created the original map, and I do back it up occasionally so that in case something catastrophic happens I'll have relatively recent data. I'll update the instructions to help people in adding new markers. I like the addition of the Model column to the data that automatically assigns the color - I was actually thinking about doing it when it moved over to the new Google maps, and someone with more gumption and time did it first!

OK - this is what is in the instructions now:
To add a new marker, click on the small pin icon under the search bar (if you hover your mouse over it, it will say "Add marker"). Position the crosshair where you want the new marker, then click your mouse button (you may want to zoom the map in before you attempt to add your marker as it will make precise placement much easier). Replace the "Point XXX" text with your name, and put whatever you like in the description - most people put the year, model, and name of their trailer. In the Model field, put in the number of your model (21 for a 21' Escape, 19 for 19' Escape, etc.) The marker colors will change based on your entry in the model column after you save it.

Thanks for your work. I added a photo to my description: will that be a problem? My button is in north Mississippi if you want to take a look.

How to edit info?
For some reason there is a photo of somebody's house in the info box for my 17. How do I delete the photo?

Thanks, in advance.

I deleted it, baglo. If you go into edit mode on your pop-up box, there is an X in the corner of the photo to delete it. You can add a photo, and someone, somehow musta put that one in.

This is kinda cool, 'cause folks can add a photo of themselves, or their trailer, or both to their marker.

You sign in to Google, then click on your marker. Click on the little pencil icon to edit the marker info, and on the bottom right of the picture is a trash can icon. Just click on that, and the picture is deleted. I fixed yours up!

The new map put my little 17 afloat in Monterey Bay, something I had never planned on doing by myself! Fortunately, finding the edit button, I have managed to return to dry land where I belong.

How does one add a photo if it is not in the public domain? It appears to me that Google only accepts URLs and not an actual photo. Am I missing something?
