A bunch of new Escapes in the showroom.

I stopped by ETI today and looked at the new offerings.

I'm semi-neutral on the differences between older and new. The Home Jury of one was much more critical. Didn't like the lack of a back splash (looks unfinished), the range hood or the panel inserts in the doors. Wasn't really crazy about the Maple finish either. I did find the mis-match between the panels and solid stock to be as noticeable in person as it was in previous photos.

All in all, very nice. But not nice enough for me to ditch my Gen 1.

Ditto on missing backsplash and cabinet door inserts, Ron... and I like my softer, rounded air conditioner ceiling shroud much more. Maybe lights inside the cabinets make them more inviting? Range hood looks cool.

Looking at your pictures the paneling and cabinet doors do not match very well . I do like the doors though . Missing backsplash do not care for .Pat

I like the Maple, but not a fan of the cabinet door mis-match either. I’d have to see the inserts in person, but not big on the way they present in the pics. Perhaps inside cabinet lighting would make them pop. Definitely needs a backsplash.
It’s nice there is a choice now.

Maybe I am a little picky but why the awful tan caps on the white side splash? It is not like they don’t have the white caps in stock.

The Maple doors look nice to me, and I've always preferred Maple over Oak. But the wall panels need to match it.

Agree with others about the backsplash. Needs something there.

I have worked with a lot of maple over the years, and the real wood will slowly develop a darker patina. With maple it takes a longer time than some woods, like cherry, teak or cedar, but it does get there. Exposure to sunlight (not so much heat like Reace mentioned in his video) will speed it along. Oak, like any wood, does develop a patina too, but I find the darkening to be a lot less than most woods.

I looked closely at our current 2015 19 last week. Even the oak doors have a different shade than the oak paneling. So I don’t see much difference with the maple. We like the maple and the no backsplash. To each his own....

Maybe, but I've found that all the solid stock oak that I've added has ended up being a pretty good match to the existing oak finished panels.

The other thing that I notice is that the panels in oak almost look like they could be real oak paneling but the maple panels look like shiny arborite.

As for so many of the individual items on a trailer, to each his own.

Wow! We were there yesterday also finalizing our build sheet. We were there from 1:00 - 3:00 working with Melisa.

In our case, we really liked the ne maple interior. I have worked with wood enough to know that in a year, the color of the frames will blend with the paneling. It turns out that it actually goes better with the countertops and fabric we picked out than the oak. I would prefer the backsplash but figure I will add something later. Perhaps the "tile" that others have done. We are getting the 3 burner stove / oven, so the hood will be black to match. I like how that looks in the 5.0.

I wanted to see the current build of the 5.0 for storage, etc since my perception of what a 5.0 looks like inside has been warped by Jim's custom cabinet work on his. (We were parked next to him at the last rally.)

Anyhow, it would have been fun to run into you.

Close call. I was there about 1:00. Good thing I wasn't muttering about things that I didn't care for when you were there.

The truth is, that if I suddenly found myself on the road with any of the different styles I'd still be a happy camper.

It's always something....we were kind of bummed to find out we'll have the new 90 degree door instead of the friction door....but then I'm very happy to have the new furnace with the outside access door.

Interesting to see how ETI has changed the hinge orientation of the cupboard doors over the years. The 'pantry' door below the microwave, opens on the other side in Ten Forward.
