Please critique my options on a 17B

Also had the cord get mildly tangled once in a while, not much of an issue on the Escapes as you can get to the cord.

Bob, it was a big issue for me in the 19, as where it gets stuffed into is at the very back corner, and very hard to access. So when it tangles in itself, or something else stowed, it was a major pain to get to and untangle. This is what prompted me to do the change. I found the other benefits only after I did so.

And yes, either way works to get you power, so just like most of the options and mods, they are all just fluff compared to just having the trailer, and getting out camping.

With my 17', Tammy advised me not to store anything in the seat compartment that holds the water heater, pump and electrical, and I've never needed to.
My cord coils ( more or less ) in it's own space.

Jim right away I installed 1/8 ply on both sides making 3 compartments . The largest is of course under the bed . Did not like outside compartment stuff under the center of bed . Also I segregated where the cord , water heater , pump etc is . On that one left front where the pump is open . So far not needed to remove ply , but if I did couple screws on frames under there . Cord never tangles and is in it's own little compartment . Pat

I was going to do something like that too, Pat. It would certainly stop the cord from tangling with other stuff. That was when Escape started supplying removable cords, so I just got the kit from them.

2Be or Not 2Be Removable???

Hi: All... Have had both on our 5ers. Watching Earwigs enter via the fixed power cord made me get the removable cord the second time around. Also having to hand crank the 5.0 landing gear cause the power cord flipped the cut off switch off was another reason... but Reace changed the cutoff switch location on the 5.0TA so I can do it with my pants leg NOW!!!

Have no need to go for the removable one. I must chirp in here - very satisfied with my standard, factory installed cord. Find it very convenient, easy to use, I pull out only what is needed, it goes back without complaints, it's easy to clean, never has tangled, does not interfere with under bed storage.

Also, never had a mouse or a bug enter through its portal..... that same, very cheaply made piece of plastic junk portal. Now there's what I would change.

You should just get comfy and hang around in your underpants when inside. Situation solved! ;D

I have never seen a different one for this type of use, but the one used is not very good quality. Most of the tabs (teeth) on the one in my 19 had broken off, mostly from use in cold weather, where the plastic turns hard and brittle.

Same here. Makes no sense. It's why I'll be hunting for 1/4 inch thick rubber stock or its equivalent.

I have left for camping and after traveling for 8 hours realized I had left my power cord at home. All I had with me was my temp cord I use when BlackJack is home in the driveway hooked up, a Marinco adapter and a 10 amp extension. This set up is thrown inside the truck during hitch up.
The reason for leaving the power cord was we had gone camping when it was really cold and the power cord is very stiff, so I threw it inside the truck bed. Upon arrival home and after warming up I removed the cord and hung it up in the garage, where it sat while I am 500 miles away.
It can happen and ruin your camping unless you have a back up. With mine, I'm limited to 10 amps of service.

So go to Camping World or Walmart and buy a 30 amp cord so your trip isn't ruined.

Tammy told us the same thing. I'm still far from convinced of any advantage of the removable cord, other than bugs, but I'm open to changing my mind before we start the potential order of a 21. I actually had a removable on order for our 17, but after talking with Tammy I changed my mind.

So far two major disadvantages seems to be: (1) potential problems at the connection point and (2) leaving or losing the removable cord. We have a pickup with plenty of storage room, so I have no real need of using the area where the standard one stores. Is the anything specific about a 21 that would make the removable more desirable than it seems to be to me on a 17?

We were told the same by Reace when we were deciding about the cord . But decide what is best for you and your trailer . Pat

Cut two inches off one of those snake-like "Floaties" little kids use swimming. Works great (and you can use the larger, remaining piece to re-capture your childhood .

For those who may have problems leaving or losing their removable cord, do not under any circumstances unhitch your trailer from the tow vehicle when at a campground or you may forget that as well.
