Hi there - the plastic exhaust vent on our 2012 17b finally gave up the ghost. I got a replacement, popped off the old one - and then realized the cutout on the metal piece inside the camper (presumably part of the range hood) only has a 9”x3” opening. This is not standard it seems as most covers have an inset that fits into the rough opening that is larger than 9”x3” (I’ve tried three now that don’t fit).

Are any of you aware of a cover with a smaller flange that fits inside the metal range hood that’s available in the US? I am really NOT wanting to have to cut into the range hood to make one fit.

Thanks!

I don't recall anyone whose done a vent replacement saying that they used the same size part. Maybe if it's the same square looking one it might be a part for part replacement.

It's really not very difficult to open it up. My view is that it probably does provide for better venting. In our case, cooking all our food inside the trailer, that's a consideration.

I'm not totally sure that the original cutout was optimal for good venting.

This is what I’m dealing with - you’re suggesting I use a dremel to cut it out? Again I’m really hoping to avoid that (I have so many other repairs right now, oye), but if there is no option someone can recommend ….

After looking at your photo, no. There seems to be a difference between mine and others that I've seen and yours.

Is removing the part of the plastic that projects past the flange possible? Basically surface mount it.

I could try that - the one I’d hoped to use was actually metal (I avoid plastic when I can in UV situations) - but that may be the way I have to go here unless someone else has a similar setup and managed to find one that fit.

Thanks for the idea!

The second photo in the ad shows a bit of side view and the flange looks similar to the plastic ones. But you're right, it'd be easy to trim.

The plus is definitely that it's metal and not bothered by UV.

The ad gives the length as 15" so it appears to be wider than your opening but wider shouldn't be a problem.
