Rear brake lights up high

Hi folks,

A couple questions...

I was reviewing some of the forum pictures (the Lark in visual escape section) and saw an additional set of rear brake lights (?) mounted above the rear window. Is this an add on feature or standard? I've not seen these before and did not see them on my build sheet. They look like a good idea.

Also, I am concerned about my soon to be Escape's screen door. In low light they are nearly invisible and I fear my dog or myself will forget about it and bust right through it. Any ideas for making it more visible or dog proof (I suspect that I will get comments about leaving the dog at home, which might be the best option)

Jane, the upper lights are an addition that can be installed at the factory. I installed a set myself which was not too hard, but the location is then somewhat more limited. It is primarily done should you put bikes on the rear, partially blocking the main taillights, plus it is just safer all around.

In 4 years we have only had two incidents of people going through the screen door, one a friend, and one my granddaughter. The good thing about them, is that they are easy to put back in the tracks if needed. Some folks just weave thread in the screen. Our dog has traveled with us almost all the time, and has never tried to go through it.

The upper lights sould be standard on all travel trailers. They are a great safety feature even when bikes are not on the rear . I am very glad we have them on ours.

We had the lights installed for 85.00 on our trailer

I put a couple of small, colorful decals of the screen door's latch side rail in and out, and that has been enough of a visual cue to prevent through-the-screen experiences.

You can take colored thread and weave a pattern in the screen. An old skool trick from when sticks n bricks homes first got big sliding glass doors. My mom replaced the screen in the door twice before she wove a yellow thread about eye level, never had to replace the screen again.

More lights.....

Here is a shot of the dual rear tail lights as installed by the factory.

Also you can see the twin 55 watt back up flood lights I had Reece add for me as we'll. I control them from a switch on my dash. Fabulous at night in a dark spot.

Because of a bike rack we also have the lights put up top. The ones on the 19 look better than on our 17. And as far as back up lights go I don't think having them on a toggle on the dash is legal in most areas north or south of the 49Th. The reason is you can inadvertently switch them on and blind the driver behind you. There supposed to be on the transmission shifter.It's like fog lights only being used if you have you head lights on. And driving lights and hi-beams. Etc. The TV booster works fine in towns and worth every cent, I quote the wife when is say this.

We had ours installed up high during the build as we were going to have a motorcycle hitch on the back. We wanted vertical lights as well but Reace said he couldn't add them because the curved back of the 17 didn't have proper clearance to fit the lights properly. Because our cycle carrier also has a hitch opening, I think it would be easy enough to add a hitch brake light or even a hitch back up light if one wanted.
