Rhubarb Index 2016

Mirrors and a Tiffany lamp in the rhubarb patch - now that is classy.

We go out to Westham Island every June to get the local strawberries. Add some rhubarb and heaven!

Rhubarb Index April 14, 2016.
I figure we'll harvest next week after doing inventory on the beer fridge.

That's awesome .....we were supposed to get a little rain today .....think there was a little 5 minute sprinkle in the north of the city ....nothing in the south . But the trees are starting to flower . No snow in March this year .

We did, we did, Gabi! :) A wee spit is all we got. Lisa broke down and watered the plants in today. Tulips are well up, buds on the trees like you said. All many weeks before normal.

I was listening to the gardening show on CHQR on Sunday, and they had to remind just about every person who called in to wait for a month to plant, it is still too early. This weather makes it seem like June, not April.

It is so bloomin dry .......I planted 12 trees last August ( back garden was nothing but a weed place ) so have been watering a few times ...some how they have all survived . The Nanking is flowering ,pansies are coming and mini irises are finishing already ....praying for some rain here .....

Did you note the mirrors on the wall behind the rhubarb?

And, I don't even like rhubarb.
Hi: gbaglo... Try adding a can of drained Pineapple Tid-Bits to stewed/ sweetened rhubarb, as it cools. Puts some crunch back into it.
On a whole new topic... add the drained juice to coconut Rhum and instant Pina Colada!!!
I noticed the chair for rhubarb watching!!! Alf
escape artist N.S. of Lake Erie;)

Go Ottawa!

To borrow somebody else's witticism: I like Spring in Ottawa. It's my favourite day of the year...

I can do you one better- I have asparagus peeking up! Rhubarb looks about like yours, but four little asparagus spears about 1" high each. Really surprised as it has been so wet but I also fertilized it this year (patch is volunteers that had never been babied before.) A couple of mornings ago I divided up a couple of tiny fronds (so I thought) and transplanted five nice large crowns to new beds, plus have another 20 new plants that just went in. Now I need more rhubarb!

Oh ...yummy , I love thing young asparagus spears sautéed in butter with a sprinkling of Montreal steak spice ....no asparagus in my garden yet ....the ones in the stores are after just about like tree trunks .......

I have a volunteer cherry tomato plant, with approximately a dozen little maters on it. One of them is turning red. Now THAT's an early spring. :D

But ....... that's in Texas .....you guys don't even get winter !!!!

One of the saddest "will Winter never end" commentaries I've ever seen was a headline in the Dominion Post newspaper, Morgantown, WV, several decades back during a ridiculously long, dreary winter that just wouldn't end. The newpaper headline was, "I saw my first Robin today! It was dead." Now that's just sad.... :(
