Jim Norman,

Make sure you pack your pie tins.

Looking great! Mine isn't quite that big but now that we've had partial sun for two days, anything could happen. And my asparagus is coming up fast- a few more days and I can make a meal or two of it.

I checked today: the last of the snow and ice have melted off of the rhubarb (but not the whole yard), but there is no hint of a shoot coming up yet. :nonono:

Maybe those neighbours to the west could mail us some?

I think Glenn has a special fertilizer (beer), I notice some fancy mirrors which may help him with sunlight?

Yup. I haven't split the root for several years now.

How do you decide it is time to split it? I got my starts from a neighbor a couple of years ago so not ready yet. I just noticed she moved all of hers to a raised bed. I just planted a couple more crowns this spring but I also think I'm going to transition them to a raised bed since our soil is mostly sand.

Also a note on rhubarb pie: for those of you traveling to or from Chilliwack who opt for the Port Townsend/Coupeville ferry route, not far past the ferry turnoff on Whidbey is Greenbank Farm and the Whidbey Pies Cafe. Great pie (good food, too) and almost always room to park a trailer (though you might have to be able to back it, too, to get back out). Great rhubarb pie but also many other kinds.

I just moved mine when I got tired of it being where it was. Must have been in the fall. I'd check with Prof. Google.
And, mine is in a raised bed. If you are going to build a raised bed, keep it to no more than 4' wide ( three would be better ). Mine are 5' wide and I can't reach the centre without much effort.

Hi: gbaglo... You need to get to know "Ben Dover". Alf

Hi Alf
That and a harvesting machete. It's all about the reach. I did not harvest any from mine the first two years. Rhubarb crunch still hot with cold vanilla bean ice cream. Puts a baked Alaskan to shame in my weighty opinion.

Hi: Iowa Dave... Never had a baked Alaskan... but I did have Deep fried Vanilla Icecream... in San Antonio Florida. WoW... enough for 2 with dueling spoons!!! Alf
