Rock Creek / Kettle River Camp fire

Phew---for that picture eh??

Glad that they made it out safely and looks like all in good shape--I can just imagine their minds that first night...

And now they think caused by a thrown out cigarette...:banghead::banghead::nonono:

So good to hear so many campers made it out intact , but so sad for all the loss...... how terrible to lose one's home and then without insurance ....

Glenn, I am very glad to hear that your friends are safe and didn't lose everything. From that video it was amazingly close.

I am very glad that everyone got out, and that your buddy didn't have any damage. I was surprised by your comment that most of the homes would not have insurance. Why is that?

Coverage is certainly available, unlike for flooding from overflowing rivers:

Just a guess. Incomes are low and when they are, insurance is usually first to go.
I don't know what the income level is in the areas affected by recent fires, but for urban people I'll note that home insurance in a rural area can be much higher than in an urban area, entirely due to the risk of loss to fire. If you are several kilometres from the nearest fire station, and there are no hydrants in the area (and there won't be hydrants in a rural area), the insurance companies have to assume that any fire will result in the total loss of the building and contents, because the fire department won't be able to get there in time, or have enough water to effectively fight the fire. Rural coverage can cost several times as much as urban coverage for the same size of house and value of property.

True that. And they tack on a few more bucks for living in a log home. I did save considerable money when I put on a metal roof rated at 125 MPH winds and 2 inch diameter hail.
