Rock Solid As Pea Gravel

ps, I totally don't get the fascination with "composting" toilets. you have to carry the pee tank to a toilet somewhere to dump it, and the 'composted' dark matter ain't really composted, that takes months, you have to dispose of it, and most places don't want it in the municipal trash stream, so what? I'd rather flush my black tank down a sewer dump, maybe once a week when both of us are using the bathroom full time. actually, its the grey tank that needs draining in about a week, if we've taken showers. the black tank can go for several weeks.

We also have been working with Rock Solid since Nov 2024. Besides having to do more 'chasing down' on the status of our loan than I thought we should have done with RS, the actual loan process was ok, and we took delivery of our beautiful 21C on Dec 18th! Now we are still waiting for our California license plate and registration tags! After 20 days of purchase Calif DMV charges a hefty late fee. Looks like they started the paperwork Jan 7th (ok, there were the holidays but ...). After more emails bugging RS for status, they said this week (Jan 30) that "Your plates have been issued.... The registration is a "suspense" registration but is valid until 2026. Because your unit is from out of the country, the state of California put it into suspense with the DMV until it clears another department." Anyone in Calif had this problem? Ugh!!
Illinois Here, but having similar problems. I went in to DMV to pay the taxes and register the vehicle and apply for the title. Since its from out of the country it's called a "Grey Market Vehicle". So I have to wait for them to create the title before I can get my license plates. I was initially told it will take 2 weeks. Called after two weeks to see what was going one, only to be told that it could be 4-6 weeks since it is a grey market. Good thing I got the trailer in January. I hope to be ready for my first trip at the end of April.

PS: I had some issues with the trailer upon delivery, and Escape is sending me to a place to have it repaired, but I can't take it with out the plates!!! Ugh !!!!!

Check with your DMV to get a temporary registration permit(TRP). You should be able to get it for up to 90 days.

For a 1st World country you are esperiancing 3rd World issues. I spent my life in Commercial Banking up here. This is the first time I ever heard the term " Grey Country". The next time you have issues as described above take a map of Canada with you. Amazing. I would expect financing/ registration to be a problem with a mobile vehicle if the vehicle was expected to be stored in Canada due to possible seizure issues and enforcement costs but for US residents???? Certainly happy to learn the collective issues were resolved. Personally I would be writing letters to decision makers.

Sadly since it's a "gray Market' vehicle and there is no title yet, I cannot. I already asked!!
Yeah, this varies widely from state-to-state. Though Texas doesn't use the term 'gray market', and does have provisions for certain temporary transport permits, it seems there's no provision for getting even a temporary transport tag for this particular set of circumstances at any DMV office. Hauling the trailer on a trailer would avoid the technical issue, but yeah, that's another expense and hassle in itself.

Having said that, IMO the risk of actually being hit with tickets / fines / penalties when just towing from point of purchase directly home is very low, particularly if one observes traffic laws and carries a full package of documents supporting the legitimate intent behind the undertaking. But I suppose YMMV if one encounters a particularly (ahem) 'diligent' LEO.

Once on home-ground, there's almost assuredly provisions for working through the title / registration process to get everything "legal", perhaps / likely involving various eyes-on inspections by appropriate authorities.

Donna, sadly it's a state issue, not the DMV. All the paper work has been submitted, it's just a waiting game now. Centex, yes I thought about bringing all my paper work with me as I take it to the dealer for the repairs. I am going to give it a few more weeks. My first trip is The last week of April, so I have some time.

When we went to pick up our 21, I went to the tax office n they issued a temp tag for us for 15 bucks. This was here in Texas , wise county. When we got home went back up there n walked out 6 mins later with tags and an empty wallet lol

2018 things could have changed. A lot of time its different office to office n county. Be going up there soon for new trucks tags. I’ll check in see if things have changed in that office

Hey Alan, just checked with the tag office on getting temp tag at least here in Wise county. They will issue a temp plate to go get your escape and when you get it home, no inspections required as long as the trailer is under 5000 lb. All that is needed is the paperwork you get from ETI and the paper worked that gets stamped when you cross the boarder. Come in with that paperwork n you walk out with permanent tags and an empty wallet just like back in 2018. Hope penwia get his situation resolved soon

I had to drive to the Auto Theft Task Force office in Conroe, Texas to have them compare the VIN to the paperwork before I could get my tags. It’s called a form 68A. Took about 3 minutes on filling out the form and 10 minutes or less on the inspection. Basically the same thing as when we crossed the border from BC to Washington.
