Roof Maintenance 17B

No! Best is to lean over from either side. It’s okay to lean on it a bit (like putting an arm on it while reaching across with the other) but no way should you put all your weight on it, it’s not designed to support weight!

On our 21C I just cleaned my roof using an 8 foot step ladder and a 6 foot handled brush. Used soap and water and never leaned on the camper at all except the weight of pressure applied to the brush. Just moved the ladder around the camper. I even scrubbed the AC, and MaxFan cover.

Looks good as new now.

I have a 17B. This year I had to remove my Penguin AC cover to tighten the mounting bolts for the fan motor. In order to accomplish this I had to lean over the roof. Most of my weight remained on the ladder, laid my upper body across the roof to reach the AC unit. At no time did I feel any flex. Other models that have a wider profile this perhaps wouldn’t have been possible.
It’s a bit like being on ice, best to keep the weight distributed, avoid any pressure concentration.

On our 21 when I need to service the AC ( clean ), I first lay down a packing blanket the a sheet of 5/8 plywood then another blanket ( no splinters in the knees ) then I get up on the roof . My weight Is distributed over a large area. No issues or stress cracks so far.
