Rotate range top or not?

Working on build sheet & wonder if those who have a 17B could provide your opinions? Have looked at the pics of both but the extra counter space potentially gained by the 90 degree rotation in a 17b does not appear to be that much. I realize there has been discussion of this somewhere but couldn't find it. Thank you! Julie

I don't see how rotating the stove would help. We have three burner stove top. I'd stick with two-burners and stove cover or use a large cutting board on the burners to increase space. But, mostly we prep and cook outside.

It all depends on whether you value space behind the stove, or beside it more. There is validity to both concepts, which one is better for you?

Besides, I too like cooking outside more anyway, though I know my wife likes to cook inside sometimes.

I'd check the footprint of the two-burner stove, but you can see from the picture of my three-burner, there is little space behind the stove or on the side. If you have the stove cover and put stuff behind the stove, you won't be able to open the cover.
If I had mine rotated, the stove cover, when open, would cover the knives.

Understood. That's why I would check the footprint. I don't think the two-burner is all that much smaller than the three. Little to gain, I think.

I too am pondering this question for our on-order 5.0. While you gain a few valuable inches of counter space, you lose the protection the stove top provides for the vinyl wall covering.

Here's what the stovetop looks like in the 2017 17B demo trailer at the factory. I don't know how far back it sits if you rotate it the other way. You'd have to ask ETI about that.

If you get the cover that comes with it, there is the side thingie, which should help.

PS, Rich, congrats on upgrading! Dirk and I still remember your 19 from when we viewed it last year while we were trying to decide which trailer to get. Lots more room for you two and the kitty. Yay!

You're on your own for wrestling over bed space with your tiny little doggie. My kitties are smaller, but they still manage to hog more than their share of the bed.

I'd also ask them which orientation is standard. Normally, what's shown in the photos is the rotated position, so I was rather surprised to see that in the demo trailer.

I have a 17B to enter production soon. On the 17B at least, I think the rotated 90-degree stove is now the standard position. My final build sheet eliminated the $50 option for rotating the stove, as ETI said it was now the default to position the stove as in Laura's photos.

Again, I am just talking about the 17 foot, 2017 model.

You lose access to the space along the outside wall and the side wall ( where I keep my knives ). Also consider the same set-up with the sink cover removed ( for rinsing veg or whatever ).
If it costs nothing to rotate the stove, I still think the normal orientation is better.

I think that's just it -- the new "normal" orientation is rotated 90 degrees on the 17, according to the photos of the demo trailer. You'd have to specify mounting it side by side now in a 17.

I actually find the top of the wardrobe convenient for some kitchen prep, as long as I haven't covered it with other stuff. I like the height for mincing garlic.

Well it's 2 doggies but thinking the front side dinette may work. Laura I look at those pics several times per week. You have no idea how helpful you have been. Thanks so much.
