it took a bit but I finally became somewhat competent on using the free subscription to RV trip wizard. It is a wonderful tool but the learning curve was great for me. I have used it extensively and really appreciate the tool.

Well.....After planning an extensive trip to the SW last week (on trip wizard), went to site today and alas, the freebie is over. It is $65/yr. Am contemplating the paid service. It is such a great tool for trip planning. Just have to creak open that credit card.

I found a discount code that takes 25% off trip wizard. Enter rvgeeks in the promo code prior to payment! Yippee!!!

Thank you, Mucram! We just renewed our subscription to RV Life Pro’s Trip Wizard, and the promo code you posted here (rvgeeks) saved us over $16 on the annual price, dropping the $65 cost down to $48.75. Yippee, indeed!

We use this planner a LOT for plotting routes and finding campgrounds along whatever path we’re taking. The reviews provided by visitors to all these campsites are very useful in deciding where to stay. We highly recommend this tool for RV trip planning.

Thanks again, Mucram!

Trip Wizard

Trip Wizard is the best planning tool out there. Having said that, it is primitive.

It will plot a route from point A to point B. However, when a gas stop is placed between the two, mileage is suddenly calculated from Point A to the gas stop, and B mileage is calculated from the gas stop to Point B. This is not a small issue. Add numerous steps, and you will now be reaching for the calculator to determine how many miles it is from one overnight stay to the other. They do have a drag route function that is actually not functional. If you drag the route, it creates waypoints that will create havoc if you modify the itinerary. I also find "RV safe routing" to be suspect. All of these issues could be fixed by a modestly talented programmer. Having said all of that, it is the best out there. However, the first provider to solve the mileage between overnight stay problem will get my business and Trip Wizard will be discarded.

Hi, Hancock. As far as just tracking the miles from one overnight stay to another, a simple solution would be to build a separate companion trip with nothing but those overnight stays. Yes, a more functional planner would eliminate the need to duplicate your work - and I agree it’s annoying - but this might solve your problem.

The best part of trip planning is going on the trip, though, right? Happy camping!

Yes, the best part is doing it, and Trip Wizard will be the best until somebody comes up with a reasonable mileage calculation method. I do like the idea of working with two files. It is workable but still a workaround for an astonishingly easy problem to fix.

Thank for those codes. I am thinking of signing up, I am new to RVing. Those who use this, is it worth it? My main reason for using it would be to route my trips. I am worried about traveling through steep mountains and narrow roadways, and hope that this app will route me accordingly. Thoughts?

We’ve used Roadtrippers for the past 5 or so years and found it extremely useful. Anyone have experience with both apps to provide a comparison? I’m always up for a better tool.
Does it route specifically for an RV, taking into account size and stuff?

Yes, it has you enter height and weight and whether or not you carry propane for what it calls "RV friendly routing" (if you want that). You can also enter your expected gas mileage, price per gallon and it will calculate trip costs.
Mostly i like its suggestions for attractions, and its integration with Campendium so you can find various types of camping, from Wal-Marts to KOA-like parking lots to County parks.

Thanks!!! That sounds exactly what I am looking for. Would like to hear from someone who uses RV Pro, thoughts?

I am using Adventure Genie and Road Trippers with Autopilot ... and did a demo of RV Pro Trip Wizard. They bring different feature sets and it depends on what you want. I start out in Adventure Genie for cross country trips and check against Road Trippers. I am not looking for a Nav system so that can be a big factor. And of course I sometimes still look in Campendium and Google Maps ...

I’ve been using a combination of Google Maps, Campendium, and Harvest Hosts for a while now, and recently to plan an upcoming cross-country and over to Newfoundland trip. What I wish is for one map that I can pin all of our stops/campgrounds along the way. Google Maps will only contain about 5-6 and then I need to make a fresh map. Frustrating. I just looked into RV Life Trip Wizard, and the reviews are not so great for some issues I don’t even understand. Maybe I should continue doing what I’m doing? Reading above, Road Trippers sounds intriguing. Any simple tips or advice?

I’ve been using Roadtrippers for about 5 years to plan our annual cross-country trips. We usually have a final destination which I enter first, then look for parks, site, attractions, towns or whatever along the way. Roadtrippers adds the stops in a sensible order and tells you how far apart they are in distance and time. You can look at campsites on the way and add them to the trip (some have reviews, but not all). You can add potential stops, then de-route them so you see them on you itinerary but you aren’t routed thru them. We do this to have some ready-made additional stops if we get the urge. You can also drag and drop stops to reorder them, and see how many miles it adds to the trip. The one thing that has annoyed me is if you’ve added dates (you don’t have to) and then you change one date in the middle it can mess up your start and end dates. To avoid this you can be sequential in changing the dates - I usually drag and drop the stops to new dates starting at the earliest date I want to change.
In the past week I’ve tried Furkot and Wanderlog but found no compelling reason to use them. We also use google maps to find local attractions and food. Overall we are very happy with Roadtrippers. Attached are a few screenshots from my phone.

I have planned a lot of trips on trip Wizard. It was a bit of a learning curve but it works for me. They do have helpful tutorials. Plus, I can share the itinerary with folks traveling with me.

I use the RVParky app.

When I started using it, it was free. I thought it was so AWESOME & said to myself that I would be willing to pay for this app & was surprised it had so many usable features for free. It was just what I was looking for to plan a camping trip across the country.

Well before our 1st trip, they changed the app. I already had most of my trip planned out. When I went to add more stops, it said I could only add 5 stops. To have the ability to add unlimited stops required a fee.

I was happy to pay for it as the fee seemed very reasonable at $19.99/year! That's the price it's been for the last 2 years.

I used it to plan both of our trips out West. First trip (Spring 2023) was 22 nights & over 5,700 miles. Second trip (Spring 2024) was 55 nights & over 7,500 miles.

For those trips we were camping in our 2018 Palomino SS-550 slide-in truck camper which had a pop-up top & no bathroom, just a port-a-potty which was rarely used. (Those trips were before we got our 2023 5.0 in the Fall of 2024.)

RVParky worked really well & I found it very intuitive & easy to use.

I did not put in gas stops, so not sure how that works in terms of mileage. I plotted all our campsites to get the right distances/time that we wanted to travel. I suppose then I could have added in the gas stops.

Wondering if any one else has used RVParky before and how it compares to the other apps mentioned.

The 1st image is from our 2nd trip out West.

RV Park gives you lots of filters to choose from.

It gives users the ability to send notes to app creator if info has changed.

You have the ability to write notes (highlighted in yellow).

You are able to mark in the app that your site was confirmed so if you are preplanning, you know which ones you have registered for. (The "lock" next to the date means you marked it as reserved.)

It has app user reviews & user pics.
I've submitted reviews & pics. Both were easy to do.

I submitted a change to correct an item that was listed & I was pleasantly surprised it was updated & changed in a timely manor. They thanked me for the update & they followed up with a notification when the change was done!

You can access the Campground's website & contact info right from the app as well.
