Screw it

Right, Gbaggs, because you can never know when an appletunance will bite you back.

You lost me. Even Google is flummoxed.

Hi: MyronL... Looks like when I finally get "Escape Hatch II" out of storage I'll have to find one of Mr. Robertson's" famous interventions and make sure I'm screwed tightly!!!
I'll bite... It's pertinent not to get myself in a flap. Alf

What we installed with straps Can’t be too careful ! Pat

I installed on our awning because had prior springs inside awning unwinding going down the road on previous rv . Luckily had straps on arms which always thought to be needed just in case . There was no rhyme or reason for the springs to unwind . Pain in the butt to fix too and dangerous . So the fellows extra locking caught my eye . I made the needed extra bracket from Chris R picture . Also made one for fellow forum member . Still use the straps also and feel very confident our awning is staying together . Pat

Is the awning issue something that has been resolved on current models or do you need to keep an eye on them too?
IMO there's never been an "awning issue" that needs to be "resolved".

BUT, for whatever reason (operator error, rare mechanical failure, bad karma, who knows what ...) some folks have an unfortunate experience.

Nothing is perfect (humans, their endeavors, and creations) so 'stuff' happens.... ;)

Yes, one should always be attentive to the proper maintenance and operation of awnings, just like many other things; and yes, some of the 'tips' mentioned in this thread may mitigate the risk of problems that some folks have encountered (IMO).

Happy Trailering! :)
