Sewer Hose Questions

I am not going to go to the trouble of locking up my sewer hose. If some unfortunate soul is desperate enough to steal mine, they probably need it more than I do. I will continue to latch mine with no locks used, and will have easy access to it when needed. There is probably only one person in the whole world who would steal a sewer hose anyways, and he has one now, so mine should be safe.

I tried unsuccessfully to GIVE the original floppy blue hose ETI provided away several times. Where is a good slinky hose thief when you need one?

My gut tells me that this is more likely a childish prank than a theft. Really, who needs your smelly old stinky slinky unless it is gold plated! I couldn't imagine someone going from RV to RV looking for that "perfect" sewer hose. As to the standard hose, it is working out fine. Maybe one day I'll go the the super Rhino hose, but for now, not the highest priority.

And anyways, if I am going to be so "anal-retentive" that I feel a need to put my sewer hose under lock and key, my black tanks are likely to be empty anyways and I won't need the sewer hose.

I don't know what to think. I was parked at a military "FamCamp" near Spokane. I'm eligible to use these because I am a retired DoD civilian, but it's the first time I've tried one. I got a "boondocking" spot on a hill away from the area with hookups, since I didn't need hookups and it was much cheaper.

There were only two other RVs near me during my stay. The first one was already there when I arrived. It was a ramshackle, tiny travel trailer that I guess the owner only uses for a "fishing camp" on weekends. It looked like it had been there for a long time. He was only there the day I arrived and returned the day before I left.

The second RV arrived the day before I left. It was a tiny, ancient motorhome with windows missing. It was filled with junk, some of it sticking out of the missing windows. Apparently a young guy owned it; I saw him outside a couple of times. The last night I was there I heard him arguing with a woman outside; she accused him of stealing stuff out of her house. The whole situation made me quite uncomfortable, as you can imagine.

So there you have it. All I know is someone took my slinky and I had to buy a new one. I didn't accidentally leave it somewhere because the hatch was latched shut.

I take it you were out at the Clear Lake Recreation area - sounds like things have gone downhill since the 70's!

I "gave" mine to a nice dumpster at a State Park in Utah.

I think the solution is to ALWAYS deploy the stinky slinky.. even if NOT hooked up! No one says you need to pull the valve. When leaving, you stuff that nasty thing back into the tube, close that hatch. And THEN, you'll at least know you've got a stinky slinky when you need it... it appears it's only stolen (MIKE!) when not used?

Hmm. Since I was in a dry camping spot, there was no place for the other end to go. Would attract attention, and someone might just open the valve-- a worse situation than having it stolen imho. Nah, I'm just gonna lock the tube.

I wish ETI included the Rhino hose with their trailers. It is SO much better than their current hose, both in use and durability. I hate to throw theirs away and so will use it and complain until it starts leaking.

My cheapo hose lasted five years. Just replaced it with another cheap one last year. I might have spent more, but the Rhino connector won't go into my storage tube.
I could care and replace the tube, but frankly, I don't.

I have been wondering if the Rhino connections will fit in the storage tube. It looks like it has a fairly large elbow on it. Are the storage tubes larger on the new trailers than the older ones? Loren

Rhino hose and connections fit in the storage tube in Ten Forward. The only thing that doesn't is the screw-in connection for the sewer. That's in two zip lock bags in a compartment.

Standard hose worked fine for me - replaced it after 4 or 5 years when it developed a small pinhole.

My Rhino AND screw connector fit fine in the new tubes ETI is putting on the trailers now. As to using ETI's supplied hose, many parks requie a sealed connection into their system. You therefore end up buying something else to comply. Also, the Rhino makes emptying the tube to the drain much easier. Well worth the few bucks we paid.
