Side Effect's 2nd Retirement Adventure

Our view at Valley of Fires in Carrizozo, NM.

We made it in just as snow pellets began to fall. Better now but brrrrrrr!

Forgot to mention. We were abducted by aliens for about an hour
Glad you got away without incident. Wouldn't want to have to send Mulder and Scully out to look for you two! ;)

The Escape looks nice and cozy. Good color choices.

Still at Valley of Fires. but who would have ever thought that Green Chili Smothered Chicken Strips could be so good.

We stopped at Mabel B’z Diner for a late lunch since Rosey’s Pizza was closed today. We had planned on getting their Green Chili Pizza.

Green Chilies for the Win!

Nice short drive to Oliver Lee Memorial State Park in Alamogordo, NM. Tomorrow we go play in the big sandbox at White Sands.

Yep! It’s White but it’s not Sand. It’s Gypsum 👍

We spend a few hours getting our shoes filled up and the wind was really whipping it up into the sky.

A Dust Storm has fell upon us here at Oliver Lee Site 19 with Severe Winds this evening & gusts up to 55 MPH. Without the dust you can see the mountains 30 miles to the West across the valley floor clear as a bell.

Fortunately I can park our F150 parallel to Side Effect to help minimize the winds this evening.

Time to hunker down with a glass of Angels Envy bourbon.🥃

We made it to City of Rocks State Park. Winds steady at 25 with gusts to 35. Seems to be the theme the first part of our journey. Oh well, that’s the adventure of escaping in an Escape.

Tonight is St. Louis the winds are a little higher with a Tornado Watch already in effect. I heard earlier of reports calling for large hail. Yikes!

Here are two views out of our back window.

Almost forgot! There is an Escape 19 a few spots down.

We have not yet. Just too lazy I guess. :ROFLMAO:
Willy, Glad you guys are out having fun! Those pictures out your window are beautiful! We are hunkered down in STL waiting for the rain to hit in about 1 hour. Looks like the winds are about as bad as they are going to be. They are talking about a possible tornado now out by St James, and there's been a few wild fires from the down power lines and high winds. Hopefully we'll all make it through without too much damage.

Hopefully our friends in St Louis survived the storms last night. It sounds like there were several tornadoes and very high winds.

In the SW of St Louis where live our neighbor sent us a video of the hail at our house. Piles of it!

Did you by any chance feel gypped? :nodding:

I hope the hail at your house was small stuff. Here in OK the winds gusted as high as 70 mph yesterday. About 50 homes burned around the town of Mannford. Some apartment buildings are gone. Glad you were farther west by this time.

We head home from Texas tomorrow. The worst I heard around our place were roads closed due to downed power lines, and dust storms. The nursing home in Yates Center burnt. We had 75-95 mph wind gusts.

We’re changing up our plans a bit due to cold and wind at elevation but Tuesday is looking like 55 mph gusts across central NM.

We had a great time playing in the rocks but now we’re sitting on the bank of the Rio Grande River for a few days.

A little farther north of ‘Mexico at Caballo Lake State park.

55 MPH gust coming tomorrow!

Picture of hail accumulation from last Friday's storm in south St Louis county. The most hail I've ever seen from a storm. Hopefully it's a long while before we see it again!
