Will store seldom used items underneath, so hopefully I won't have to get into the storage too often.
I have an exterior hatch at front passenger side to access under bench.

Mine is on the front, not the side. If I got the box, I wouldn't be able to open it. Have to admit, I don't use it much. You are limited by the size of the opening. Bulky items are easier to get at by lifting the seat.
Another issue for ETI may be that you can get water in the compartment ( driving rain ). I've had a wee bit when I didn't put the rock guards on.
I got one front hatch on each side. If I had the front box (which was not being made at the time), I would get doors on the bench "fronts" for easier access.;DHere's a pic that shows the hatch with vinyl rock guard hanging.
For those leaving your "options open," smart choice! I originally had a ten-year plan and had the front made into a permanent bed by Escape. My rescue dog changed all that (long story) and when I tried to sell it after a year, the permanent bed was a deal breaker for several people. Wish I had just set it up as a bed and left it set up instead of making it permanent. It did sell, but I had to reduce the price.
Hi Ellen ! Good to hear from you ! Hope you and your companion are doing well ! Pat and Linda
