Hi All,

Hubby and I retire in 4-5 years so I've been doing a lot of research and narrowing things down. I'm a bit of a planner or dreamer depending your outlook! As a kid, we spent all summer in the trailer--first a 23 ft Frolic and then a 31 foot Airstream (67 International I think).

We have it narrowed down to the Scamp 5'er, Casita 17' , Bigfoot or Escape 5.0 (TA hopefully but not firm on this).(EDIT-I left out the Bigfoot) Up until today, vintage Airstream was in the running but we went to look at one and a bit sadly, I realized that the AS was my Dad's dream not mine and I don't have to have one to keep their memory alive.

We are planning on going up to the Florida Fiberglass Rally next weekend and hoping to get to talk to owners a bit. Hubby knows his way around doing fiberglass so also a great choice for us. Our tow vehicle is ANIMAL the GMC Sierra with a 454. He came with a heavy duty tow package.

My plan is to lurk around and ask a lot of questions so that as soon as the right deal comes along we feel prepared to knowledgeably do it.

Just biding our time in SW Florida until we can do what Dad always said.."It doesn't matter what you are RVing in...As soon as you can go, then just go!"

I think you are confusing Bigfoot and Escape ( the 5.0 TA ) or just misspoke.

Doing the math, adding up the additions, converting present time CAN$ to US$, accounting for delivery fees...this is a bit of a bargain.

AND...you won't have to wait 7 months to have it built.

Nice thing about glass trailers is they hold their value really well. 4 years before retirement we bought a Casita 17 LD, did a few long distance trips (1-2 weeks), many extended weekends, and figured out what we really wanted in a trailer to spend 4-5 weeks on a trip. Decided we needed a permanent bed, and a tad more room width-wise to pass each other indoors. After 6-8 months, and visiting many trailers at rallies, we settled in on the Escape 21. The 5TA is identical from the door back, and we tow with a Tacoma V6 with no problem. You do not need a 454 engine for towing a glass trailer!

Meezermom, welcome to the forum. Don't feel bad about being a wannabee as we have been one for three years. Anyway, we are slowly moving forward and yes, we were at the Casita plant 2 years ago and the Escape plant last fall. Take you time, do your research and Escape will look better every day. As Reace would say " it all depends on your expectations". Some folks want it nice & easy- including me.

There is another rally being held in April in Tennessee with at least 6 Escapes in attendance

We went thru same decisions recently, settled on a 19' Escape, completion date June 22, yay!
Ruled out Casita, didn't much care for the carpeting everywhere. Ruled out airstream, not only for cost, but really wanted dual axle and queen bed, which isn't available in the 19' airstream.
We never did look at a Scamp, but one look in an Escape and we were sold, a nice feeling of quality we didn't feel with a Casita.....of course, budget is a consideration.....good luck with your decision!
