I don't know if this has been covered, and I have not yet finished viewing the terrific presentation by Jeff and Bruce, but I figured out how to grab the aforementioned item without reaching into the tube. Here goes: I got a piece of heavy duty string trimmer line (.65 I think) and cut it so that it would be able to project (with knot and loop) from the slinky to the capped edge of the tube. I then put a double knot at one end and a loop at the other. I then removed the tape that covers the hose clamp at one end. I then loosened the hose clap enough to insert the knotted end underneath (knot facing to where the back end of the tube would be when inside), and then re-tightened the hose clamp. This left the long strand with the loop end (for a convenient grab handle) at the outside edge. Now when I stuff the slinky back in the stiffness of the line allows it to stay extended toward the opening, and easily reachable because the loop is right there upon opening of the tube. ;)
This is where a picture would be worth a thousand words. And if anybody cannot figure out my garbled description, I will try to do that in the not-to-distant future. Try that Bruce! ;D It might save you a glove or two. :D P.S. : If you do this don't forget to replace the tape. It keeps the bolt and nut assembly from injuring you or the tube. ;)

I simply drilled a hole top and bottom half way down the
"stinky slinky holder tube" put a long zap strap through
it and now when I put my stink slinky away it won't
travel to the other end and I don't have to reach
for it. ;D ;D ;D

Perfect solution!

Good idea! ;) Not only that, with the holes at that location, then drainage (if any) from the bottom one might occur.

I like the hole - zap strap solution. No more pre-surgical style scrubbing up to the elbow after fishing for the slinky!

Since we're on the topic, I can suggest, from experience, that you not casually toss the end of the slinky on the ground after you've unhooked it. I did and it hit some concrete and snapped off one of the bits that holds it secure. I had to search for a replacement, since most would not fit into the pipe.

I usually use a "wye" to connect both water to the trailer and another to a coiled hose for general washing, such as dog paws, patio etc. It also comes in handy to wash the slinky prior to replacement in the tube. (Subsequent to the graywater wash) ;)

In a pinch, I use the hook that is used to pull down the awning. Saves reaching in up to the elbows to retreive the slinky. Give it a good clean after though.

I'll be using Doug's solution before our next departure.

I do wish that the carrier tube held standard and heavy-duty sewage hoses, though. Glenn is right, replacements that fit are hard to find. I wonder if the design could be rethought in a way that also meant a more attractive holder for the license plate without unduly increasing expense.

Hi: All... If you move the gear clamp along the slinky so the first spiral of the metal spring sticks out a little, near the very end, it will catch inside the tube and hold slinky from migrating inside the tube.
I would like to re attach the tube under slung of the bumper so the licence plate hangs down straight. Just fussy I guess!!! Alf
escape artist N.S. of Lake Erie ;) p.s. a box of surgical gloves helps as does a squirt of hand sanitizer in the end!!!

This is what I do all the time too. Works great.

I too am going to try for a different method of storing the waste pipe, not sure what yet though, but it will be a bit bigger to hold a better pipe.

Maybe Reace and Tammy can install a wider storage tube underneath the bumper... Is there something underneath that does make installation of a storage tube impossible? Height of the trailer should be no issue, as I am getting the lift axle anyways. The slinky seems to cause some issues for people after all, and it would be nice just to avoid certain things... :-\

He Jim, you got an interesting profile pic going now.... ::)

Personally, I'm going to wait for the wireless waste disposal system. Maybe Bluetooth? I had it for my cell phone and I thought it was crap then.

That is a great idea Glenn, you could make a mint marketing it. :)

This post discusses a hose holder that I made out of a fence post http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/index.php?showtopic=20567

To make it easier to get the hose out, I made a slinkly holder out of 1/2 inch PVC pipe. To protect the hose I made a trough to hold the hose when it crosses over the curb found at some dump stations.

The first picture below shows the slinky with the slinky holder and the 4 inch trough. The trough is 4 inch PVC pipe cut lengthwise.

The slinky holder is a length of PVC pipe slightly longer than the compressed length of the slinky. Both ends have a T fitting with small pieces of pipe to keep the holder from retracting into the slinky. One end has a removable T fitting, the other is glued. The second picture shows me holding the slinky holder.

Thane, I had been thinking about your solution and I think it might be right alone the line of what I might do.
