2008 Escape 17B with a Wedgewood Vision LP Drop-In Cook-top - model DV30, regulator manufacturer part# 51062

On a trip to 100 Mile House last week, I was using all three burners to cook dinner. All of a sudden the flow of propane diminished to almost zero on all three burners. I removed the stove top cover and discovered that a plastic valve on the bottom of the stove top regulator had disengaged. I was able to jimmy rig it to work by propping it up with quarters. It looks like it is some kind of overheating safety valve. I am able to reinsert the plastic disk into the hole on the underside of the regulator as it has a serrated edge and it will work without the quarters. It won't stay on while I travel however. (There is a spring loaded plastic piece already in the open hole.) There was also a yellow plastic glob much like a miniature Hersey's chocolate kiss in the bottom of stove top cabinet. It may or may not be related. Finally to my questions:
What is the root cause of the failure?
Is the disengaging of the plastic disk a safety feature?
Is the yellow blob related?
Can a new plastic disk be purchased and where?
Do I need to purchase and install a new regulator?

Your thoughts would be appreciated? Thanks Dan

Doug - Thanks for this excellent information! It looks like a new regulator is in order. Dan

Dan since your question was answered, can I ask if you have any comments about RV camping in and around 100 Mile?

Thanks Larry. (I waited till your question was answered :))

Larry - I only go up to 100 Mile House once per year to fish for rainbows and lake trout. We camp at different lakes just to the west of Wells Gray park. The road is gravel for about 50 kilometres and the trip takes about 2 hours with the trailer on it. They are BC Forest Service camp grounds. Dan
