The system logs me out before I finish my posts

Several times I have lost my posts because the system makes me log in again when I try to post my message. I have taken to composing my message elsewhere and the copying and pasting.

Is there a way to keep my session alive longer?

(Typically I am posting using Safari on an iPad, if that makes any difference.)

Thanks.

99.9% of the time I use an iPhone and Safari to read and post on the fiberglass forums and only rarely have I been logged out. I would not think your iPad or Safari is the cause. I would suggest you contact a member of the EOF staff (like Donna D) and ask for assistance.

As far as I know, everyone gets the same amount of time. But I don't know how long that is, sorry. I'm never logged out.

Perhaps do as others have found that works, use something like Note Pad to formulate your response. Then copy and paste that into a reply window.

Irregardless of what your logout issue is.... Its a good precaution to copy your work on longer posts.

I will typically copy my post as I write and before I hit "Submit Reply" especially if I'm making a longer post. I find that its a good safety measure to use just in case something happens. Sometimes I get up in the middle of writing a post, sometimes my 2yr old grandson comes along and hits the keys, etc, etc. It only takes a few sec to copy your work and save a lot of frustration.

I started doing this nearly 20 yrs back when I was taking some online college classes. We were required to have a minimum amount of class forum activity. There were a few times that I hit "Submit" on my forum postings that took me a significant amount of time to write and for some reason the universities forum system back then would boggle my post, either logging me out automatically after 1hr, or just hiccup and lose whatever I had written.

Also, when you log in, check the box remember me so you stay logged in. If not, you have to log back in every time you come to the forum.

I've had the problem for many years on different boards. One thing to do is when you log in, be sure and click the "Remember Me" check box before pushing the log in button, otherwise you will be logged out after a period of time. Remember Me will keep you logged in "forever". I see Randy posted the same thing a few minutes ago.

I find the internet flaky enough however that, as others have noted, on long posts, I compose it in MS Word and then copy and paste it to the reply box.

I have tons of photos and like to post any that relate to the post that I'm making. I often go off searching for the right photo and come back and get told that I have to log in again. Not a problem because I don't lose the original text.

When you log in again your original text has vanished?

Just hit the back arrow, you log in again and, hit again until you are back where your post is then submit. It's not lost when you get logged out.

Ok, thanks everybody. I used to compose things off line and then copy and paste into whatever site I was working on, but these habits have died in several years of retirement. I guess I will have to rejuvenate them.

Now where is Wordpad on this iPad anyway?

The "Remember Me" button is key. But I don't think I've used it in years. I'm always logged in.

I only use the forum Reply to Thread window to compose and use the "Preview Post" button frequently, any time I make a change actually, to see if my change looks how I want it. That way, all my work is saved. I can use the Back button to get to anywhere in the post process.

I've never lost anything or been logged out using those methods. I can close the browser on my computer or phone but as soon as I open this forum again in a browser, I'm logged in. I find it handy.

A couple of more thoughts:

We use cookies to keep you logged in as you navigate around the site (and while you're composing). It's possible that your login cookie is being purged by either your browser or by a security application you are using.

Checking the "remember me" helps in this regard but will not override your browser settings.
