Time to paint the plastic.

Well after a walk around the trailer it hit me, my plastic vents, covers and such are starting to yellow and I know from experience that the next step is for them to become brittle. So out came the can of Krylon Fusion plastic paint.

Then the masking off started, first the kitchen range hood vent, next the painting, which turned out pretty good.

Then the plumbing vents.

Now I'm looking at my escape hatch cover hmmm [emoji848] why not. So off it comes and into the shop for a spray. This too turns out pretty good, starting to love this paint by now (first time I've tried it).

This too turned out good.

Hi Bob, yup gloss white.

I was surprised how fast these were yellowing. Mind you on other RVs I've owned the vent covers only lasted maybe 5 years then they were yellow, brittle and would crack with the slightest pressure. I used to keep a few in stock just in case.

having said that... perhaps the Satin would look more "original" and less "i have been painted" ... ?

i'm curious. I need to fix the slightly yellowing plastic stuff (similar bits) on our Casita before I sell it early 2017.

Hmm... I have several vent covers between three RVs, none are as little as five years old, and none are brittle; however, that's probably the difference between my tree-shaded driveway up here and the hot and sunny south (of Alberta).

The Canadian web page for Krylon Fusion for Plastic shows Dover White only in gloss, although the U.S. site shows it in both gloss and satin... so you should be able to find it in glossy.

The Amazon.com entry for Krylon 2322 Fusion Spray Paint, Dover White doesn't say "gloss", but it is a different part number from the satin (which is 2422) - I assume it's the gloss.

Yup it comes it comes in gloss finish.

The regular white comes in gloss (as Doug showed), but so does the Dover White.

Stuff I used is Krylon Fusion 42322 Dover White. Doesn't say gloss or satin.

The paint I have used is a nice bright clean looking white that seems to match the 1 year old gelcoat nicely. The can just reads gloss white.

I keep my trailer under cover when not in use, but I wipe all plastic parts with 303 UV Aerospace Protectant every 3 months or so. I have used it for years on all of my trailers, past and present. It seems to keep the platic parts from yellowing and/or UV induced deterioration.

We used the 303 on our trailer a couple of weeks ago on all plastic stuff for the UV protection (we have a new vent cover)/also worked great on the decals.
We (Doug) actually used it on the whole trailer--it is not shiny but feels nice and smooth....
I had wanted to do the spray paint but Doug was worried about overspray etc...

I used the 303 to wipe down all the plastic parts and did the awning on the roll where it is exposed when stored. May end up wiping down the entire awning with it. Auto guy turned me onto Meguiars Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer for the decals.

By all means mask them - don't remove them. They have a good seal and are also caulked. Removing them to paint is way more trouble than it's worth.

Don't just mask a small area around the vent. I'd put down some drop cloths.
I speak from experience having used it on a exhaust vent for my home furnace.

Thanks, I was thinking masking would be safer then taking them the vent off. Did you also mask the escape hatch on the roof?

My experience is that the cover (lid) matches the paint..glossy or satin..or?;D

I masked around the range good and plumbing vents, the escape hatch cover I removed.
