Does anyone have/use a TPMS they like or have experience with this Tymate brand? I am interested in this Tymate RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System - M7-3 however it is not recommended for trailers without repeater but has a review of a user with a trailer. Does anyone have this one? I like the fact that it is USB and Solar powered. My cig socket is not working.

The recommended one, Tymate M12-3 Blue Version is for six tires and has a repeater. Not sure I need that and it is 179 dollars.

We have been using the Tymate M7-3 on our 5.0 for the last 4 seasons without issue. It has worked fine for us without a repeater. I can't say if the increased distance to the axles on a 21 would make any noticeable difference. This is a fairly basic unit but still provides accurate tire pressure and temperature readings.

I replaced the batteries in the sensors this year more as a precaution than due to failure. Otherwise the unit has worked as it should.
 
We purchased our Tymate M7-3 in 2020 for $30.39. So far it has only reported one tire losing air. It had a really nice screw that punctured the tire. We're still using the original batteries. Perhaps this fall they'll be replaced.

It worked well with our Escape 5.0 and is now on our Bigfoot 25RQ. Never an issue seeing all the tires.

I went with the Lippert Tire Linc system. It uses a repeater and gives you a choice of using an app on your phone, or buying a optional display, and also an alerter.

I went with the alerter and use my phone to see pressures when I need to. I've had a couple of alarms when it loses signal from the repeater. When I first hit the road, I can bring up the app and watch the tire pressures rise as the tires warm up, then I go back to Google Maps or Waze. The phone is in a holder on the dash, as its my primary source of navigation.

I put the repeater inside my front cargo pod (this is not an Escape), and its out of the weather and not subject to damage either.

We've used the Tymate M7-3 on our 2021 5.0 since new so 4 seasons. It works well without a repeater, no issues whatsoever. Also, we have a 2014 F150, we use another M7-3 unit on its tires all the time and it's done great for 4 years.

Metal valve stems

I have the TT-600. It performs well but I wonder if that top heavy sensor was the cause of a slow air leak in one of my tires (previous travel trailer). The leak was at the valve stem. Seems that a top heavy sensor would put strain on a valve stem.

Would using metal valve stems be advised on any sensor similar in size/weight?

When I put new tires on our Escape I specified metal stems. When I got the tires back they had new stems but they were “high Pressure “ stems with a combination of rubber and metal in their makeup. I pointed this out to the salesman and he was pretty disappointed in his new tire guy as he had written “all metal stems” on the ticket. They put an older fellow on the job and he switched the stems out, rebalanced the tires and make sure everything was as I had specified. I write this so others will not be misled by the term “high pressure stems.” There is some deflection (bending) to the stem if they are not metal. When I looked close at the rim I could see where the cap type tire pressure device had “scuffed” the wheel rim. I’d definitely recommend all metal stems and I run them on my tow vehicle too. The tires are balanced with stick on weights on the inner surface of the wheel so the clamp on/ hammer on weights do not garf up ( technical term) the rim.

I have a question about the TPMS systems mentioned. My current TPMS is a "Trailer TPMS" by TireMinder. One thing that I hate is that it displays pressure even when it has no signal. I can be many miles and hours from the trailer and it still shows a pressure. To me, bad data is worse than no data.
So my question is, if you have no signal, like the start in the morning, what does the display show?

Why don't you just turn it off?

(per the instructions:.... press and hold the center button for a full 10 seconds ...)

Every morning, before leaving I turn off the TPMS and then turn it on. In five minutes all monitors are registering, so for that 5 minutes I may be operating without a TPMS until they all register. I’m not worrying about 5 minutes since I’ve already kicked the tires before leaving.

It’s a philosophy that I have prescribed to for most of my engineering career: if you don’t have the data, let the user know and they can make a decision from that. But I understand there are other alternatives.

But turning the unit off then on as you and Perry suggested does not always work. Case in point (albeit far edge case): on my last trip, on the last morning, I did my usual checks and everything seemed fine. When I got home and parked my trailer, I noticed that one of my wheel assemblies was gone (tire, rim, and brake drum). Apparently, the bearings failed (molten metal around the spindle). If I had been notified of a loss of signal, I could have made an informed decision.

As I said, I would prefer a unit that reports loss of signal and was looking for one that always does. My TireMinder does sometimes.

OK, not sure if this meets your requirements, but FWIW attached is a clip from the Instructions, Troubleshooting / FAQ section, for the EezTire model 618 TPMS describing some loss-of-signal behavior scenarios.

If you want to dig deeper you can download the Instruction Manuals for the various EeZTire models here.

This is the TPMS I used with a previous tow-vehicle (my current 2022 F150 has integrated truck and trailer TPMS, so no aftermarket device is needed). I was satisfied with the unit when I used it. With apology, I'm sure I did it (my engineering nature / curiosity) but I do not recall the details of 'testing' either of these scenarios with that unit.
