Does anyone tow a 19' with a Suburban(2007-2014) and if you do, does the tongue Jack interfere with opening your rear tailgate on the TV? Thanks

Dan, I had that problem with my TV - 98 Cherokee. I solved that issue by buying an extra long stinger. I'm not near my trailer so I am unable to measure for you but I would say that it moved my ball about 1.5" aft. Worked great. Now I have switched tow vehicles and put the "long" stinger in my '09 Tacoma. Now when I drop the tail gate, I have about 1/4" clearance with the gate and my trailer jack.

If your current stinger is long enough for adequate support, you could drill a 5/8" hole in a location far enough forward to give you clearance. Drill press required.

Hope this helps - I don't remember the cost of the longer stinger. Perhaps www.etrailer.com can give you a good idea.

Just rotate the jack head 90 degrees, it will get you about 5 extra inches. I just did it for a friend.

I like to do that anyway as that is the side I always stand on when hitching/unhitching which makes the controls much easier to operate.
Hope this doesn't start a fight like which side your heads go on the 19 bed, cause everyone knows the correct side is the passenger side. ;D

I never even thought of rotating the head! I, too, bought a longer stinger because my Tundra tailgate is the size of barn door. I managed to get about 1/4" clearance, but would really like a shorter connection. Will have to look into rotating the head, but I have a different model than your photo. Thanks for the tip.

Fred the jack I did was a Lippert jack, you remove the 2 rubber plugs/caps on the sides, remove the bolts and the head will lift off. The jack shaft was drilled with holes to mount at 90 degrees but they were not tapped, this was easily remedied with a 5/16 x 18 tap. They power head was then reinstalled. Hopefully the Atwood jack will be as easy.

Cheers

This is a great idea if the power jack head is the thing causing the clearance issues. In our case, it wouldn't matter, because the tailgate clears the head but hits the post. Best solution for us was an extended stinger.

Hi Dan,
Not a Suburban, but I towed my 21 with a 2009 Trailblazer for a while. It has a similar hatch/receiver set up and I could open the hatch even after having my Anderson hitch head drilled to move the ball 2" closer to the rear axle.... I have the standard manual jack.
I use the Jack-E-Up now with my Silverado to allow lowering the tailgate with the same deeper set hitch head.

Does anyone know if it is possible to rotate the head 90 degrees on an Atwood power jack?
Haven't checked, but it wouldn't gain you much clearance. The sides of the motor housing stick out about as much as the front does. Now if it was mounted backwards? That would gain you a few inches.

Don't the bolt holes form an equilateral triangle, so that you could mount it with any of the bolt holes facing forward? Then it could face 120° around from forward in either direction. (Just not 90°).
