We're picking up our 17B this August, and after a tour across BC and back to California over Glacier NP, I'd like to put it back under a shelter in our driveway. Limited space there, however. We have a 12x8x8 tent-with-frame shelter for our 11' teardrop which has served well for years. Any of you 17A/B owners have a suggestion for a model? Everything I see is either 16 or 20 feet long, and we've got to get 'er pretty exactly!
Thanks!

Jonathan, we had a ShelterLogic one that lasted pretty well, although eventually the UV breaks them down. I can't remember the precise size, but our was longer as we stored both the 17 and my Kubota tractor in it. They do have lots of configurations and sizes, so maybe one will fit your needs

Shelters

Yes, the shelter logic products are well represented on Amazon. I just have to find a bit shorter length to fit the 17 B.

I've been using plastic tarps on my present shelter, but one way I've kept the UV from breaking it down is to use an additional black netting tarp over the top which cuts down the UV exposure significantly, 'they say. Apparently. It seems to work so far.

How about one of the metal roof open sided car ports? I've seen those in shorter lengths, but maybe it will be hard to find one tall enough.

Shelter

Actually, that's a good idea! I think I'm going to look into that.

They make various bolt on extension legs so you can gain height. The local auto garage by me has one and the opening height is about 9 or 10 ft. The car ports do have a problem in high winds so proper anchoring of the frame is important.

I personally would go with the metal roof and then try to fill in three sides. Also if you can somehow squeeze in a twenty footer, you'll find that practical for access to the front and back when in storage.

Bow Arch Shed

Some 5-6 years ago I built "from scratch" a bow arch shelter. Plans are from Stimpson Marine, and width and length are adjustable. I built it originally for a boat building shelter, but use it for my old Casita storage. The plastic greenhouse film has lasted just fine for over these 5 years...but it is in the shade beneath tall conifer trees and sheltered from UV. It sheds snow very well. I'd likely just buy some steel tubing/big box shelter as this design took a lot of time, but I had a superabundance of time at the time...so why not?

Sun, rain and wind will be the forces to deal with in any shelter consideration. Oh....and snow, too, eh? I'm expecting 4" of White Death snow tonight.

Tom, nice work. What are those white arched ribs make of? We're predicted for 5-8" with temps up to 37F while its snowing. Somehow I don't think it will be powder....

The ribs are bent in a jig and just cheap 1" X 3" pine. In the jig, some pieces crack, some do not. 2"X4" spacers between the arch ribs. Check out Stimpson Marine or bow arch shelter for more info. It is a "temporary" permitted shelter in my village and can be disassembled easily. Temporary, so far, being for some years.

We didn't have a lot of room either. We bought a Mega Domain 10x20' and customized it. We switched the lengthwise poles with the roof poles. This added height and width, and shortened the length. Unfortunately, it means you need one extra B pole but we were able to purchase it. We also had to change the way the cover was attached. It was a puzzle, but it seems to be working. We got the original kit from Home Depot. We have a 17b.

Tom, great to see the process, and I can certainly see that you needed a lot of time on your hands for it!

shelter

Yes that looks good .I've been thinking about a temporary shelter that I could keep up for many years ?
