Trip Sacramento CA to Mississippi suggestions

Hello All, Some travel suggestions please.

Please suggest: places to see, stay, restaurants, stores, memorials, gadgets. We are planning late September to Mid November.

1. Sacramento to Mississippi outbound route now is: Sacramento south to the LA area then east and generally south to Houston Texas. Then on to Jackson Mississippi.

2. The return route is not planned yet. Suggestions?

Donna has a good link. Also check my recent post about our West Texas Adventure. Several site are along I10. Also look at Lockhart SP near Lockhart TX and stock up on really good Texas BBQ. Brazos Bend SP just south of Houston is worth a look. It has a good observatory and lots of alligators (luckily they are not near the campground). [emoji4]

Another thought...if you are retired military, Blue Angel Recreation Park near NAS Pensacola is a great stop. Plenty to do and the Naval Aviation Museum is outstanding.

I don't know about campgrounds and places to visit along your route but would advise that before arriving in Jackson you take the Natchez trace from Natchez to Jackson. Nice 50mph road with no stops and no trucks. We'd love to take some of that route but our trips from the by the NE corner of ND take us southeast to GA and the trace runs from Natchez to Nashville going northeast.

For the initial part of your trip, when you say "south to the LA area," are you actually going to Los Angeles?

If you are taking I-10 east, we enjoyed camping / exploring Organ Pipe Cactus NM, Catalina SP, Lost Dutchman SP, Kartchner Caverns SP, Chiricahua NM (Bonita Canyon Campground), City of Rocks SP, Balmorea SP (bring your bathing suits), and Davis Mountain SP and the nearby McDonald Observatory.

Worth seeing, the Desert Museum outside Tucson, White Sands NM, Las Cruces, San Antonio, Alligators at the Cameron-prairie wildlife refuge's pintail wildlife drive, and New Orleans of course. A lot of SP's around San Antonio and New Orleans. Maybe it was just all the rain but Sam Houston SP outside Lake Charles was just plain bad for camping.

Do look for COE campgrounds on your travels, if you have the national park geezer pass you can camp at the COE's for 1/2 price.

We probably go to LA enough to hit I 10 then head east and south.
