Anyone here remember CAA TripTiks? OMG - how exciting to receive your very own, personalized, road trip maps, tips and hints all bound up in a wonderful laminated spiral package, complete with fold-outs! They were magic.

Well, just as I've come to embrace my Kobo, and Kindle, and Macbook for travelling, I'm coming to love Chat GBT. I know this isn't the first thread about using it for trip-planning but I just wanted to come on here and wax lyrical about the joys of working with my friend CGBT to plan a trip that's totally geared to exactly what we want.

I've only JUST begun planning for X-Canada in July/Aug/Sept 2027. It's so much darned fun - "Hey, CGBT, my husband wants to fly-fish from shore on the trip. Given the time of year and our location stops are there any places you recommend?" "Sure! You're travelling at a good time for fly-fishing. Here's exactly where to go/how far from where you'll be parked up/what flies to use ++++" - WHAT??!!! Do you know how many miles of fly-fishing forums I'd need to troll through and cut-and-paste from to get even a tenth of the info CGBT gave me in under 90-seconds?

Anyway, this is just a bit of a ramble while I'm on my trip-planning high. Long live Chat GBT - I can't wait to keep working with it, and on our plan, in the coming year. Now, just need to figure out how to print, fold and spiral bind our final CGBT TripTik!

We used ChatGPT to partially plan our trip to Osoyoos for the Escape Rally last year. It recommended Kettle Falls State Park as one of our stays where we met several other Escape Rally attendees. It also recommended the incredible hardware store in Osoyoos as an attraction to visit. We loved it. I use it quite a bit for trip planning. Just be specific in your prompt; How far you want to travel in a day. What type of campsite your looking for, etc. I like Claude by Anthropic a little better than CGPT, but Chat is pretty good.

Used AAA Trip Kits dozen of times in the day. Loved them. Helped plan over night, Gas stops. it was the best.
Did have a problem on one Kit, traveling from Florida to California, Going through Texas and they had omitted a page, "a 300 mile page". Did that ever screw up the planed over night and gas stops.

Trip Tiks were the best! Also, I'm sure many people know this, but please double check all the advice that AI gives you. It's helpful for researching, but it isn't always accurate and sometimes makes things up out of nowhere.

It was always a thrill to get the CAA Trip Tik package in the mail when my parents took us on road trips. The whole family would pore over them in anticipation of our trips.
My wife and I have only become CAA members in the last few years and our style of travel doesn't lend itself to using the TripTiks but we still pick up paper maps from CAA for general reference until we get to the Visitor Centres in our destination areas and get provincial or state maps.

Trip tiks are still available and just as good and useful.
