WA: Ft Casey Spring Escape Rally April 21-26, 2024

As of now we should have about half the campground. And this long cold wet dark winter should be over!

I'm going camping there in a few weeks.. my goal is to camp at least once a month this year and that's going to be January and February, weather permitting.

Vehicle Reservations for Spring Season Available 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 See bulletins: https://wsdot.com/wsfbulletins

If you are coming from the peninsula OR if you plan to go home that way, make a reservation as soon as you can. I tried for a weekend date two months in advance recently and could not get a time that worked. You can change or cancel right up until the day before but RVs have to have a reservation! (Only for Coupeville/Pt. Townsend, not for Mukilteo/Clinton.)

Reminder: - Wednesday morning Feb 14 you can make ferry reservations if you are coming from the Olympic peninsula (or points south and want to avoid Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle traffic). Sunday arrivals especially will likely need reservations made early.

Are you thinking of switching to Lithium?

Just prior to or during the rally I will be upgrading my lithium battery bank from 3 100ah Battleborn GC2-size batteries to a single Epoch 460ah 8D-size battery. This will result in 3 sets of battery, fuse, cutoff switch & cables plus 1 set of pos & neg buss bars and fuse that somebody can purchase at a "reasonable" price. I'm asking $400 for one set, 2 sets for $750, $1000 will take it all. (I paid $1200/battery plus the other stuff.) The buss bars will go with multiple batteries.

The batteries are 4.5 years old and continue to provide me with good service. But, with my nightly deficit sometimes exceeding 125ah, I want a larger cushion for bad solar days. (And maybe leave Starlink on at night.) Besides, my recently installed 3000 watt Victron Multiplus-II inverter/charger has the potential to exceed the combined output of the current batteries.

If you want all 3 I'll probably just provide the board with the cutoffs & buss bars already mounted.

Site available

Due to surgery scheduling we will be unable to attend this year's Fort Casey Rally. We have site #10, from April 21-26th. I will hold off cancellation until around noon on Wednesday, March 27, to let Escapees have first chance at it.
We are so bummed to be missing this rally. We had a great time in 2023.

I'm going to get out a loose schedule soon. If anyone would like to host anything let me know. Options would be potluck*, campfire*, maybe a swap/trade/giveaway time? Other?

*I plan to host something Sunday night at site 13 but that's up front and breezy so if the wind doesn't favor us, a more sheltered backup site will be useful.

a) if anyone is giving up a site please let me know as we have someone looking.

b) tentative schedule. (Well, my neatly bulleted list didn't post so well..)

Fort Casey 2024 Escape Rally
If you want to be on a text message list for updates, please message me a good phone number. Or watch the Dry Erase board at site 13.

Sunday, April 21

• Campfire/meet and greet at Bobbie’s, site 13, about 6:30 PM. If you want, bring your dinner and come earlier.

Monday April 22

• Lighthouse open! (also Sunday) 12- 4 PM. Not open again until Friday so this is the best chance to go. (Subject to actually opening as there have been delays.)
• Monday night- currently nothing planned but watch the Dry Erase board at site 13 for updates. Volunteer host(s) are welcome to plan a campfire or dinner/campfire.

Tuesday

• Potluck 5:30 PM. Site to be announced, depending on weather and volunteers. Site to be determined (volunteer host(s) welcome, if two adjacent sites are Escapes that would be a great location.

Wednesday

• Dog walkers! Going to Greenbank farm (off leash, great view) or Double Bluff beach park, welcome with or without a dog. Watch for an update as to which location we choose. Let’s plan on leaving Ft. Casey about 10:30 am.
• Dutch oven potluck- for those who want to learn to use a Dutch oven outdoors, meet at site 13 about 3:30 PM. If you know what you want to make and have your equipment, you can come join us or bake at your own site. If you want to learn, or need equipment, I have several extra camp dutch ovens (CDOs) and can help you figure out a recipe. Anything you can cook in the oven or stovetop at home can be cooked in a CDO.
• Others: bring side dishes and come for dinner about 5:30. Probably back at 13 so I don’t have to cart all my equipment somewhere else.

Thursday
• For those sticking around, we can decide if we want to try a local restaurant or gather for dinner and/or a campfire.

Unfortunately we will need to leave on the 23rd because my mom is having surgery on the 24th and needs me to drive her. If anyone wants the rest of our stay from the 23rd to the 26th let me know. We will now be there from the 17th to the 23rd

Bummer but Mom's come first. I'll be there the 17th (if I remember right and don't drop a day or two..) Going up to an agility trial on the 20th just for the day.
