Wanted to learn more about Escape

New from North Carolina

Hello,

Escape Artist posted a photo of his Frontier & Escape 5.0 on a Frontier forum. Not very familiar with Escape campers yet, but plan to more learn about them.

We currently camp with a 2010 LivinLite CampLite 11RD 1500lb TT. It's a basic camper and about 98% aluminum. Will eventually move up to a larger TT or 5th wheel. Tow with a 2013 Frontier crew cab with 261HP V6/AT.

We camp mostly in NC & SC, but plan to camp out west next year and possibly BC, too. ;D

We've had "Our Escape Hatch" through one set of tires with a min. of trouble. Our 5.0 has been from Alaska to Virginia and Indiana to Maine plus several places in Ontario. After seeing your Fronty/5.0 rig, got me interested in Escape & 5th wheels. Very interested in the redesign being performed on the 5.0. Guessing the "Escape Hatch" is a camper that allows Escape into the "better" world of camping. "Escape" is a great name for a camper!

Busy reading many threads on the Escape forum this morning.

Retired and love to camp. We currently tow with a 2013 Frontier Crew-cab equipped with a Leer shell and Thule rack/rail system. The shell is handy for taking Kayaks and storing stuff inside to keep the animals out of during the night. We transport bicycles inside of the CampLite 11RD on a homemade removable plywood transport rack system.

Very interested in the new Escape 5.0, but may not have a good way to transport two 10' Kayaks.

If we purchased the Escape 19', would be able to transport Kayaks and assume there is a good way to transport bicycles, have not read enough threads yet. We also like the 60"X 80" bed and all the windows in the 19' Escape.

You are right, it may be difficult to transport kayaks if towing a 5.0. Since your kayaks seem to be relatively short from your picture, it may be possible to rack them further forward on your pickup, extending from the roof of the cab forwards. You would need a set of bars on your roof as well as a hitch type carrier on the front of the truck, but is likely doable.

If you go for a tow behind such as the 19', your truck could continue to be used as a carrier for your kayaks.

With both the 5.0 and the 19', you could add a bike carrier to the rear of the trailer (Escape offers an optional hitch on their trailers for this). In this case, you would have to satisfy yourselves that you could add the extra weight to the back of your trailer without excessively impacting your hitch weight.

Good thought on the PU roof rack. If we purchased a 5.0, would probably move up to a Tundra, F-150, Ram 1500, Crew-cab TV and set it up for Kayaks. Would keep the Fronty too, since we really like it and have other stuff to tow.

Like the optional bike carrier on the rear for bikes, too.

Hi: exploring/carolina... One of the best features about the new 5.0TA is it's easily set to the full sized pick ups. Reace& Tammy owners of ETI tow with an F150 eco-boost V6.
We still find the Frontier a very capable tug. The 5' bed requires either a roller hitch or a 10" pin extender which clamps to the pin box of the trailer. RV Supplies, 5th Wheel Hitches and Electrical Plumbing by Tweetys Alf
