Water pump cycling

next time I can hook up to city water [a couple of weeks from now] I will test to see if any water is trickling down the input hose to the pump. Thanks for giving me a way to test to see if it is the check valve.

Just hooked up to city water and definitely that was backfilling the water tank, so it is the pump for sure. I will follow the advice I've got and just swap it out for a new pump after this coming weeks outing, and in the meanwhile, turn the pump off when not using it.

Thanks to all for the good and helpful advice.

Try clearing the pump check valve. Disconnect city water, open faucets to relieve pressure, and run the pump, with water in the tank of course. This most often clears the check valve of whatever is holding it from sealing, Very common procedure, dozens of Youtube videos on this.
