water stain on ceiling fabric

Hello,

I have used the search but most likely not well enough.... .

Have any of you had to clean stains off of your fabric headliner? My black tank vent on my 2006 17b leaked at the roof exit (was missing the mushroom cap apparently) creating a water stain. Id like to get the headliner back to pristine again.

Also, Id like to buy the same vent cap so I can just get the piece i am missing. I will most likely have to replace the whole vent cap though. Hopefully the holes will match up as the less holes the better.Proflex caulking is apparently the choice product for this?

Not sure if by fabric, you mean the vinyl that I have or some other product. I've just used soapy water on the vinyl.

Could be a question for ETI.
They should know what the fabric is and what would be safe to use to clean it.

I would think contact ETI. You probably don’t have Dollar Tree in Canada, right? There is a product called LA’s Totally Awesome Power Oxygen Base Cleaner (it’s a powder in a container you mix with water). The wall carpet in my Casita had become discolored and crusty and it looked like the window was leaking. But I would go in and check after a hard rain and it was dry. I was getting more and more frustrated about this when my husband finally fessed up and admitted that “maybe” he had hosed off the trailer a couple times and forgotten to close the window. I mixed up some of the cleaner and scrubbed it in and blotted it and good as new! My experience might not help you, being in Canada, but it might help someone.

I would read the label on whatever product you buy. Many contain chlorine ( bleach ). I'd start with Dawn dish detergent. It works on oiled birds...

One might use caution with a steam iron ( as in the wiki thing ) just because the heat can set a stain. Might try a wee bit of peroxide in a tiny spot to test. I would avoid bleach as it may well leave new marks- well unless you get info on the fabric and it is recommended.

I would try steam and blotting first and maybe with a light detergent like dawn. Then I might try a carpet cleaning product like resolve or similar. Those newby mistakes can be left alone too so that they remind us to look at the check list! It works for me....most of the time. Most of all enjoy your camper!

Also, want to avoid creating a sag by damage to the glue holding headliner.
