Well boys, it's been good to know you

Museum

I remember the day well. I was in Council Bluffs those days. Years later we vacationed in the UP and visited the museum. It was very interesting and sobering at the same time. If you’re ever in that area the museum is worth the stop in my opinion.

Yup, been there, you betcha'

The museum is near Paradise, Michigan, 'da U.P., eh? Paradise, MI is a bit of a stretch. Nice enough there in August; it must be brutal there come the gales of November and the Winter. No gales this November so far. Record warmth instead.

Yah, There’s a pretty good home cooking restaurant in Paradise. Their specialty is pasties and I’m not talking about your college days in a dimly lit bar out in the country.

Dobbers, in Escanaba Michigan, (up dare in the U.P., eh?) makes a pretty extensive & good tasting variety of them. I always stop in and have one and take some home when passing thru.

Ah, those Thunder Bay Persians. Pretty well anyone I have known if they don't live in Thunder Bay but used to, must take Persians home with them when they go, well at least if they haven't eaten them all before returning home:)

And while in Thunder Bay, after you have your Persian roll, don't forget to check out the Sleeping Giant Brewery where you will find the coolest modification on a fiberglass trailer

Yes, very true!

Yes, very true!

Our problem is that we don't have our son and family living in Thunder Bay anymore. They moved believe or not all the way to Prince Rupert BC, which by water is only about 25 miles from the southernmost tip of Alaska. I do have a sister and family in Thunder Bay but do not anticipate going there much now. But when I do, the Sleeping Giant brewery is a more likely stop for me than the Persian Man. Great beer and such a variety!

And what’s amazing is Prince Rupert is still only about mid way in BC to the Yukon road border. Somehow the Alaskan border was negotiated to come half way down BC!

We found Prince Rupert a wonderful place to visit and have really enjoyed it the several times we've been there. But it is a long way to go from Manitoba.

The city is very outdoor orientated and it seems nearly every home owns an RV of one sort or another, which they park in their yards or on the street, so you should have no trouble parking your trailer almost anywhere.

Plus, while you're in Prince Rupert you are only a hop, skip and a 12 hour ferry ride from Haida Gwaii. Be aware though, it's quite costly to take your trailer on the ferry and you need to reserve a spot.

I can't tell you about the breweries or the pastries.
