What did you do for your Escape today.....

Stainless steel door holder to replace the cheap white plastic. Also new awning fabric from Carefree as the stitching was dry rotted after 11+ years. The wrinkles will work out over time.

My "cheap" white plastic door holder is doing just fine after 13 years. I'd probably replace it with another cheap white plastic holder, which would take me to 2034 or beyond.

I replaced the door holdback on for my door earlier this year. I broke the cheapo plastic one in 2018! So while Glenn may get decades out of his, I got four years. I used a bungy to hold it against the awning arm until I finally put the new stainless steel one on. Lazy me!

I'm cheap too. I broke my cheap white plastic holder but I glued it back together and put some tubing over it for insurance. I would have replaced it with a nice metal one but didn't want to deal with rivets!

I badly need to replace my awning fabric...multiple pin holes at the top.

I bought this, as recommended from a Scamp owner. ooooh so easy!

Oh wow! Thank you. That does look easy. Yes, my thumbs are getting arthritic and my right index finger has never recovered from a dog leash incident almost a year ago.

Maybe I will have a metal door latch someday.:thumb:

Alright great mods . Love our stainless holder had to change out about year 4 . Our awning is still doing good but when I need to hope you have some pointers for the process ! Pat👍🏻

Forget the new awning!

If you'll split the savings with me, I'll give you the secret sauce for repairing pinholes in things, or even bigger holes.

OK. Free advice today..... ONLY.

I've used this stuff on 3 tents, repaired a torn & clear map case, repaired & reinforced an adapted Casita awning with it. Tough stuff, a urethane clear material.

If you desire a white urethane sealant, this is probably very good too, but I've not used it.

I did use some Gear Aid on my Escape awning last year to deal with some abrasions, no tears, holes or the like. I'd assume you could get some years more use with your existing awning with some maintenance of it.

The stitching is looking a bit frayed on my awning as well, although the rest is looking good and no pinholes. I changed my mind! I can't get the Gorilla tape in larger than a 10 foot roll and need at least 13 feet.... dang. SO, I just bought this. I only want to cover the stitching along the rail. A small disposable paintbrush should do the job. Hopefully it will allow me to get a lot more years before I need to replace it :thumb:

Patch it....not replace it.

Your Gorilla material will likely do quite well with the stitching. Most any urethane sealant would, could work well.

Now, only if I could buy a bucket load of Shoe-Goo to use to milk some more mileage out of my Imelda Marcos collection of tired, worn and tattered footware. Dat would be heaven.

About $350 with shipping for new awning fabric from Carefree. Not too difficult to replace. Watched this video and went step-by-step. Had help from a neighbor. Critical part is not letting the end go when under spring tension.

I had about a 1-inch long gash in the top of my awning where it is fastened to the trailer on my 19'. I had just finished taping my flexible solar panels to the roof of my 15B and had a half roll of eternabond tape left over. I placed a small piece of the eternabond tape over the tear in the awning fabric. That patch has been in place and working well now for nearly 4 years.

Hi: Nindy... I'm cheap too... or reasonably inexpensive. My problem is lately I'm coming "Unglued"... but I find this thread riveting!!! Alf

Hi Dave yup great tape and same here for longevity . Our electric fan cover was cracked at the back hinge so used that tape and even though received a new cover from manufacturer , it’s still holding , so never changed the cover . Another use had a crack in our freezer at home and used tape and it fixed it . Refrigerator’s are so expensive ! Our solar still doing great too ! Pat

Hello Rubincon327,
Thank you for sharing your mod. May I ask what size of rivet did you used to attach the awning fabric to the trailer?. Did you use aluminum or stainless steel rivets?

Hello Rubincon327,
Please ignore my questions. I asked these questions before I watched the awning replacement video.

Listening to all this about the threads deteriorating on the 4” exposed portion on the manual awning, I purchased brushable white Flex seal and painted the 4” exposed thread and fabric of my 8mo. old 21C.
