What measurements do you want on the 2017 21?

Once Sarah tells me the 2017 style 21 is out on the lot for viewing, I'm heading up to the factory. The very next day, if at all possible! :thumb:

Since we're getting the 2017 21 footer for ourselves, I plan to take as many measurements as possible. Heck, I might even bring a step stool along so I can take photos of the top. (Hopefully it won't be raining! Dang it, just jinxed myself! :nonono: )

As with the 17 and 19, I plan to take as many photos as possible of every single thing that I can think of. I plan to take measurements of every single thing I can think of.

(CPAHarley, I'll zip into the 19 and will take a full length photo of the closed bathroom door so you can see if there's a gap. What else did I miss in my other photos? Can't remember.)

What I'd like to know is what others want to know. A couple were already suggested on another thread, so I figured I'd start a separate one where I could track everyone's requests.

Please note I'm not going to do this on the other trailers. It will take gobs of time for us to do this on just the 21 and I really don't want to spend all day there measuring stuff. You'll need to ask ETI for that sort of info.

I plan to measure:

1. Inside of the cabinets (just with the door opening area as I need to know if something solid will fit in through the door) - please note I'm not going to measure the curve of the walls as that's beyond what I need to know and what I want to do while we're there

2. Raised dinette floor (height of raised area) - an actual measurement instead of my finger length like I used before ;D

3. Floor to area where the table sits for when you make it into a bed

4. Windows (need to know for the blinds we're getting)

5. Door to outside

6. Width of outside of trailer (not sure if I can get the height, which LosAngeles requested, so don't hold your breath on that; ETI would probably be the best to ask for that measurement)

7. Medicine cabinet, including height/width of fixed shelves

What else? No need to copy this entire post in your reply. Just tell me what you want and I'll see if I can do it for ya. No guarantees, of course.

Thanks folks! I'm sssssooooo looking forward to seeing the new 21 footer!

thanks for doing this.

so... with the wider top and bottom.... i''d be interested in:

for the 2017 21'

how wide (and long) of a single 'runner' / carpet we could put down.

to cover as much of the bed-> kitchen area as possible, in one fell swoop.

:)

yes we know that there is a 3" floor lip in the 2017, so the runner/carpet can't go into dinette area at all. :thumb:

Thanks, check on the door and stripper pole and if there is room around the mattress, supposedly these three items are now standard in the 19' Escape.

additional 21 questions

Please measure the height of the seat from the raised floor in the dinette. My feet didn't reach in our 2015.

Also, could you take pictures inside the benches to see how much usable storage space is left after the detectors, batteries, pump and electrical panels?

thanks!

So, you wanna know the distance from the floor to the top of the seat cushion? This is what I figured, but wanted to double check.

Yeah, I forgot about the underseat areas when I was there before, so I'll probably take photos of all that of all 3 size trailers when I'm there. Thanks for the reminder - I knew there was something I forgot and this was it.

Is there any guess when the 21might be presented? I'm anxious to see if the build sheet is changed.

When I was there just over a week ago Sarah said it would be about a month. But, I'm not sure if she meant a month before one pops out of the mold or a month before it's on display. I'm going to email her again in a few weeks to see how it's looking for timing.

I think they would have the build sheet all finalized by now as we didn't have any problems with it when we switched our order from a 2016 to a 2017 style.

With the wider refrigerator, I'm curious what the microwave cabinet dimensions will be. Also, my guess is that the space between the drawer cabinet and the bed will be less but it would be good to know how much is left.

Yeah, this is one of the areas I was going to measure. I know it was 11" before as I was thinking of putting the cat box there until I realized that was too small for Spike, who is a big kitty. Not enough room for him to turn around. And yeah, I would suspect this area has shrunk a bit to make room for the frig. But I'll find out for sure pretty soon! :thumb:

Thanks to Laura for investing the time and effort to help satisfy (or maybe just whet) the curiosity of everyone on the forum.

I was in Chilliwack today for other business, and decided to drop in to Escape. I got a quick escorted tour through the new 19 model to see it for myself. I can answer some questions I recalled from cpaharley - I can confirm that the stripper pole by the sink is now a standard feature, and the bathroom door is the same as in 2014 with gaps at top and bottom.

The new straight side body style gives an extra 2" on each side at top and bottom of trailer body - this was only noticeable to me when looking in overhead and floor level storage bins, as the body width is the same at the middle belly band. In an eyeball comparison to my 2014 model, the overhead storage is about 2" deeper at shelf level, but of course on the awning side, the awning juts into the storage space somewhat, so might not create more usable space. The overhead storage on driver side bins front and aft will hold more without the awning cutout on that side. The front dinette lower storage bins are also noticeably wider on both sides.

The bathroom medicine cabinet has 2 shelves, so 3 levels including the cabinet bottom, the middle is the largest of the 3. I think it was Donna D who posted a link to the spec sheet that showed the exact dimensions, which as I recall, seemed to match the real thing - the middle level was the deepest, the 2 shelves being about 4 inches from top and bottom.

Gutters over the frameless windows where there is no awning might be a good idea, as there is a noticeable gap between the window pane and the rest of the window that is fixed to the trailer when the window is opened.

Hope this is useful to those who are still wondering about the new models.

Thanks Kirk,
Does it make you want to upgrade?

No, I am happy with my 2014 model. There isn't anything new on the 2017 that I can't live without, and I prefer some things on the 2014, like no pole next to the sink. If I upgrade, it will because I want a different layout, perhaps the north-south bed in a 5.0.

I hear there are some folks on the forum that get a new Escape trailer every year, imagine that! :whistling:

Laura's pictures don't show a post in the 19. So is that famous pole there yes or no???

There was a pole in the trailer I was in yesterday, and I asked if the pole was standard in 2017, and was told yes. So the trailer I saw must have been a different unit from the one Laura photographed.

I found the pole in the 21' Escape to be very helpful in exiting the trailer particularly when making those pit stops and the steps are retracted.

p.s. could you please measure the outside "track" of the wheels?

i know the frame is 4" wider, and thus the wheels will have a bit wider stance as well.

our parking space has a couple obstacles on the way back in.... the 'track' will be good to know.

thanks. :)
