Which Proven Industries Model?

Which Proven Industries coupler lock fits a 2021 21NE? I sent an email to them and they responded to go with the 2178-A model which is a squareish model, but the locks I seen other Escapee's use look more like the cylinderic type 2178. The cylinderic 2178 model looks more substantial compared to the 2178-A model and of course I want the strongest lock available.

Hi mfschu,

I have a Escape 21 ne as well and that is the model to get (2178-A) that is the one that fit my trailer. You are able to keep you chains inside the lower selection of it. Very nice setup. I have Proven Industries on all my trailers. (4)

The 2178 did not fit.

And the right one is the 2178-A...... don't be fooled in thinking just because it's square that it's a lesser quality. IT IS VERY HIGH QUALITY AND VERY STRONG, your trailer will be safe as far as this is concern.


I'll take a picture of it in the morning and post it here for you to see.

Can't go wrong with this setup.

I have the 2516 on my E23. I’m not sure if that is the correct size for the 21 or not. Proven Industries is a great company and reached out to me when I ordered to confirm the correct sizing prior to shipping. I would suggest you just give them a call, they will ensure you get the correct lock for your application. The product itself is awesome, you won’t find anything that beats it.

The Proven hitch lock depends on the type of coupler you have. My 2019 21C uses the same lock Jack has, and I think that's the one for the (much reviled) coupler Escape uses. If you send a photo of your coupler to Proven, they will confirm the lock model.

The reputed weak point of the Proven locks is the 'puck'. As I recall, Proven offers a more expensive puck that is more resistant; I just went with their standard one, figuring nothing would stop a really determined thief, but a little deterrence is valuable.

I have been looking at getting a hitch lock and was eyeing this one from Proven Industries.

I use the 2178-A with my 2023 E19. As others have mentioned, Proven Industries was very supportive during the ordering process. They had me submit photos of the coupler prior to shipping my order....just to ensure I had selected the correct model.
