Window Caulking

Hey folks, I searched this topic so apologies if it has already been asked and answered.
It appears as if it is standard procedure nowadays to not put a bead of sealant along the top and down the sides of window frames (or maybe they forgot on mine!).
I'm not having any issues but can't get used to not seeing it there - any RV I've ever owned had it done.
I know that the caulking doesn't age well and would make window replacement a little more challenging but I'm curious if anyone is putting a bead around the windows just for an added level of protection?

Frankly, I think that added sealant isn't necessary and is only there to give you some measure of security. The windows in my 1988 Scamp were installed using butyl and remained leak free for 25 years. Then it was time for some maintenance.


The tops of the windows in my 2014 Escape 5.0TA received a bead of clear sealant from the factory. Within a couple of years that clear sealant (that I originally could hardly see) had turned a fulgly greenish/brown color. I wish it wasn't there! And no, that isn't mold. Sigh.

The new windows have a gasket. I’ve had mine in and out twice and they are leak free. When I need new gaskets or caulk, I’ll fix it then. We have a few hundred nights on the trailer and camp year round. They simply haven’t leaked.
