Window choices on new build

Hi all, we are finalising our build sheet and would be interested in people's experiences with windows as we are having difficulty deciding. We can only have a fixed back window with framed window package, and cannot have frameless for the bathroom and kitchen options with the framed package. our questions are from what we saw on the escape FB page in terms of those dealing with dust leakage etc on frameless back window and rain with framed windows. We will have a manual awning. how effective are the sliders on the kitchen and bathroom options in terms of ventilation rain etc. and what have folks done to adapt the emergency window on the framed package that does not have netting or the ability to be propped open

My experience, others may be different. We have framed except rear frameless. We have the older emergency window, so I can’t comment on the new one.

Framed: I’ve had them for years in RV’s. They have always been reliable, except on this Escape, I had trouble with the run channel. It was hard getting warranty support from Lippert, but once I finally did, they made everything easy. They have been good since the fix. They do allow more airflow than the frameless. As far as open in the rain, it depends on on the wind.

Frameless: Lots of comments on problems. Ours have been fine, but we are VERY careful not to torque them shut hard, and we keep the gasket well lubricated with 303. Otherwise the gasket sticks to the glass. I will say this, the frameless windows have MUCH less condensation than the framed. At least on the older frameless, you can mod them to open wider, but I’m not sure what that does to your warranty. They can mostly stay open in the rain.

If I had to do it again, I’d probably do the same as I did this time.

Same here. We did take the screens off the rear windows for better vision, like the solid window you can get in back when you get sliders, except there is a bar in the middle. Works for us.

We have manual windows and don't have any problem with lack of ventilation because of only being able to open the passenger dinette window when the awning is not deployed.

I don't know why those with slider windows seem to think they get better ventilation, since only about 45% of their slider window can be open at best.

I've had sliders in our Scamp, Casita, and Bigfoot, and have had rain get in when I forgot to close the windows when leaving (and then it rains). This hasn't happened with our awning windows.

So we enjoy the awning windows, but neither awning nor sliders are perfect.

We are picking up on 21C on Monday and ordered it with sliding windows for a couple of reasons. One because we can open the windows with the manual awning not deployed and two because we did not want a center divider in the rear window.

Our trailer is coming with the new "non-screen" emergency window. I ordered the old version with the screen and red handle rom Lippert and after sending me a few that were damaged they finally sent me one that is perfect. The last damaged one they sent on had a very minor blemish in the metal frame and they said they did not want it back.

I will post it for sale later once I get our new 21C back home and settled in.

I was fortunate enough to view Johnny's windows in person and would love to have them in our 2017 Escape 19. Not sure of cost comparison but Escape should definitely look into them for their trailers.

I didn’t watch the video, but ours were not double pane. The wide open window, even in the rain was nice.

I have the framed windows with the manual awning. I do have the screened Emergency Window in my '20 Escape 19.

With the manual awning I partially deploy it and I can have kitchen window, door and one of the passenger dinette window open in the rain. Along with MaxAir fan, that is plenty of ventilation to keep it cool in the rain.

I have the framed windows with the manual awning. I do have the screened Emergency Window in my '20 Escape 19.

Ditto, and I have the split frameless rear window. I also have the optional bath and kitchen framed windows.


So functionally I have seven windows that can be opened.


In the rain, I have five that can be opened.


Away from the trailer, with awning closed, I still have three that can be opened.


We really love having all three windows around the bed open. It's a key feature for us coming from a trailer before where we slept in tenting (the one main redeeming quality of that poorly made stick-built).

We bought our 2017 Escape 19 used and it came with frameless windows all the way around, so we didn't have a chose, but we love them. We have had framed windows on other trailers but like the look and operation of frameless better. so, if we were to buy a new trailer, we would pick frameless.

Frameless split opening rear windows on our trailer do allow quite a bit of dust to come in. We took the screens off and stuffed the interior frame with damp paper towels a couple times to mitigate. It did help but some dust still gets in. Both window panels have a visible gap (maybe 1/2") in the rubber seal near the middle vertical frame support where the dust comes in. I've assumed it was by design to allow condensation to drain. Most road conditions don't cause much concern but it's a nuisance at times.
