Anyone have a suggestion for how to stabilize our 17B dinette post? The post wobbles as soon as we start using the table, even though we've set it down securely in the receiving base piece bolted to the floor. Some sort of shim or wrap for the base of the metal post? Other suggestions?
We like the table and the ease of sliding it back and forth to get into the seating, but because the post doesn't stay snug and tight in the base, the whole table starts to wiggle whenever you touch it.
Any ideas would be most appreciated!

I had the same wobbly table issue & hated it. I ended up using aluminum foil tape wrapped around the bottom third of the post as a shim (about 1 1/2 to 2 inches). I wrapped it end to end so there is only a single layer (strip) of material. I just did this so I hope it lasts & I don't know the long term effectiveness or if the table legs will be harder to remove. So far it's working great. http://www.homedepot.com/p/ADO-Products-2-in-x-50-yds-Aluminum-Foil-Tape-Roll-TAFL2015016EC/302742795

That's a chronic problem with that type of post. It looks like a taper fit but its not really. A true taper would be rock firm but this is a poorly shaped imitation of a taper.

Folks have done a number of remedial fixes. Depends if you plan to use the area as a bed and remove the posts often. At least one person put a sheet metal screw through the base into the post to firm it up.

I've always had Springfield type table supports and my Scamp had a different system that was quite firm. When I went to ETI and sat at the dinette for the first time, put my arms on the table and saw how much wobble there was, I said don't install the table. Done that twice now.

I have the 21NE with standard 2 post table and bench settee (not U shape). The leg cups are upside down so are recessed into the floor. The table is somewhat wobbly but stiffens up as the posts work their way into the sockets. The most aggravating issue I had with the table was that it was awkward to stand between the table and the settee to access storage cabinets. I increased the space by removing the slider stops and installed my own stops, so the table slides further to the sides. I am happy with the table now.

Hi guys, I have a similar problem with wobble. I have a new 17b, but The other issue I am having is getting posts off once on. They get stuck. Does anyone recommend some kind of lube that is not oily to use on the posts?

Some grease would aid in disassembly.....either petro or silicone based grease, not spray stuff. You'll need a substantial film to aid in removal, and a good whack from the side and shimmy helps. Place the grease in the cup to keep things more tidy.

We put in the Springfield table pedestal. It is solid and we move it up and down every day.

I agree, Springfield is vastly superior. For both Escapes it was don't install the tube bases. But you get them anyway. Probably will never get used.

I had the option to install the Springfield, but I was worried since they are permanent, so I went with the standard option, wondering now if that was the best choice. I suppose I can always upgrade to the Springfield later.

No more permanent than the tube baseplate screwed to the floor times two and likely less reason to ever want to change it in the future.

A retro fit with a Springfield is a quick and easy enough task. I did it, and use the dinette daily to convert to a bed with a memory foam topper atop the dinette cushions. It works very well for me. No need to store the steel uprights in bed mode, a quick conversion

My main concern with the Springfield is that the post would be in the way of storage when used as a bed, but seeing the issues I am having, wondering if I should have gone with Springfield. How difficult is it to retro fit, if I decide after a few trips to switch them out?

The original table is used because its sized correctly to become a bed. The original sliders can still be used. Some folks also like to upgrade them to 4 way sliders.

Storage space is not impacted, depending on the size of what you intend to store. You do need to attach the Springfield with screws to the underside of the table top AND the floor, after removing the stock bases.
