Picked up the trailer today - a bit snow this morning. Dennis drove the trailer to Sumas as the regular driver said the roads were too bad for him to drive. Ha! He would have had a stroke over the roads we traveled on the way up.

The trailer is great - we're set up in a RV park in Washington now.

Pics are the parking area at Escape. Saw several of the new 5.0 TA in the parking lot. Sure looks like a lot of trailers are ready.

All that said above .... I'm sitting in Juneau, AK and get poor news coverage of weather conditions in Wash., Oregon, and Calf. Today there was a short blurb on NPR about another series of fronts for CA. .... starting again (I think in a couple of days). Please remember that you can always find a safe place to be, sit tight and let the challenging weather pass. That's a tremendous advantage we have with our trailers.

I usually think about 101 - coast route for winter time driving BUT that road is windy and prone to mud slides and road washouts. Never the less, its generally my first choice .... regardless.

Good Luck Ron - please keep us up to date as I really enjoyed your last winters adventures. I may be looking at Baja myself in late Feb. - not sure.

101 is our Plan B, but, as you point out, it does have it's own problems. At some point we'll have to make a decision based on where we are and current conditions.

Baja is a conditional destination at this time. Mexico Hwy. 1 has taken a major beating and is in poor condition and likely to remain so for weeks or months. Plus, with the deregulation of gas prices, protesters have blocked gas shipments and many gas stations are closed because of gas shortages. So we'll see what the situation is when we get to Socal.

Fred, Tomorrow as you head N/B up 505 then onto N/B 5, keep an eye out for Granzellas Deli in Williams. It's about 60 miles north of Vacaville. They've got an RV friendly parking lot and a huge deli. Great sandwiches and maybe the best muffuletta West of Na'lins! Safe Travels.

We are at Seven Feathers RV park tonight. Unie is designating which cabinet holds what - I've got the hook-up stuff where I want it. Of course, we need a gazillion Command hooks, various holders, and a MICROWAVE.

Tomorrow is decision time - continue on I5 or swing over to 101. Siskiyou looks good this evening but there's no telling how it will be 12 hours from now.

Great to hear! We are trying to evaluate the same but in the northbound direction. If we both take I5, we might just spot you as you pass by on southbound lane. That would be a hoot!

Freak out time!

I tell ya, I really freak out when I read about you folks going up to get your trailers and then heading back home. All that snow, ice, heavy rains and all that crud. Not for me!

Back in high school I was in a really bad accident on black ice on a very high bridge that we could have plunged off of and ever since I've been majorly freaked by driving in crap like that.

I know people do it all the time, but yeah, not me.

So, I repeat what has already been said. STAY SAFE!!! Hunker down if need be. If you get home later than expected - at least you're home. If you pick up later than expected - at least you're still picking it up.

Almost 18 years ago we hauled a U-Haul full of my mom's stuff after she was killed in a car crash in the Sacramento area (2 kids racing) and we had to go over the Siskiyous in February. Not fun, nor is it something I want to repeat, so my fingers and toes and ankles and wrists and my eyes are all crossed that everyone makes it safely through there and elsewhere on your journey.

Whew! Okay, freak out mode has been turned off.

We're considering going through Las Vegas then up HWY 93 to Twin Falls then work our way up to I-90. Would Snoqualmie Pass be a better choice than I-5 and the Siskiyous? Looking for input from someone with experience in that area.

I'm SO glad you got through Portland before last night. We've got a foot of snow on the ground right now and it's still snowing. ALL vehicles must have chains for the surface streets.

The weather looks much better the further south in Oregon. We'll get above freezing over the weekend, then rain (so they say.)

Those icing conditions sound nasty. We only deal with them a few times a winter, usually from packed snow when it warms. Has me thinking about picking up at least one set of tire chains for my drive. Though it sounds the trailer may need them too in some places.

Snoqualmie can be a bitch at times as well. And at all times you have to be on the lookout for stupid a$$ drivers going both ways. They seem to think it's a race course and drive way too fast for conditions and slope of the road.

And you've also got Ryegrass Pass (east) and I forget the other one (Indian John Hill maybe). Ryegrass got us pretty good when we moved to Spokane some years ago in February. Snoqualmie was clear, but Ryegrass was icy and tricky.

If going through the Tri-Cities in eastern WA, I hear they just got hit with a big storm as well.

Basically anywhere in the West, this time of year, can smack you upside the head pretty good. Yeah, definitely see why folks wait till spring to get their trailers!
