5.0 TA suspension

ETI describes the fifth wheel's suspension as having rubber torsion suspension. I thought the only 5.0TA I saw had leaf springs. When I get my fifth wheel in September, what will I get for suspension?

I believe they have switched to the 3500 lb Dexter torsion bar axles, I'm sure someone else who knows for sure will chime in and you can always call ETI.

Kent.

Only the first TA's had leaf spring. I think they went to torsion bars for the 2015's.

The independent "rubber torsion" axle/suspension used by Escape is the Dexter Torflex; the up-to-3500 pound capacity model (the only size currently used by Escape) is the Torflex #10.
  1. The first Escape fifth-wheel model - the 5.0 - had a single Torflex axle
  2. The current fifth-wheel model - the 5.0TA - has tandem beam axles with leaf springs (not Torflex).
  3. The new-style fifth-wheel model, for which the moulds are currently being constructed and which will be the only version offered in 2017, will reportedly have tandem Torflex axles.
Unfortunately, some of the descriptive text on the Escape Trailer Industries website was never changed from the original 5.0 and has always referred to "rubber torsion suspension axle" and "independent suspension", which has been incorrect for the years that the 5.0TA has been built. The Features list for the 5.0TA did specify "Spring Axles with EZ Flex Suspension" (even though the text elsewhere on the page still incorrectly said independent rubber torsion), but now (since Feb 2016) says "Tandem 3000lb Torsion Rubber Ride Suspension"... probably to describe the trailers which can now be ordered for 2017 delivery.

No Escape has ever had torsion bar springs (as far as I know there is not even a torsion-bar sprung trailer suspension sold in North America), but that's a common error in terminology, often used when referring to designs such as the Torflex.

There have been many discussions of the 5.0TA suspension, and I have yet to see any indication that there has been any change from the leaf-spring setup, although the coming change has been announced. If anyone has a recent 5.0TA with Torflex axles, I would be interested in hearing from them.

Short answer: In September 2017, it will have tandem Torflex #10 "rubber torsion" independent suspension
