My wife and I have been either tent camping or renting a cabin @ Hunting Island State Park for the last 12 years or so for New Years Eve Holiday. We pick up our 19' Escape on May 2nd. This will be our first year spending the holiday there in our Escape instead of a tent! We can't wait. It's a great place to visit and enjoy the (usually) warm end of year! If you want to spend the holiday there, you have to reserve 11 months before the date and it fills up very quickly.

As of last year there was only one cabin for rent, all the others fell victim to beach movement.

I read that it is the most visited state park in SC. While we always found it crowded, we were able to find openings for our three times camping there with only a month or two notice; however, it was always after or before the summer, school vacation time, and not during a holiday. It seems like one time we had to rent two different spots, (consecutively, not concurrently), in order to stay the entire week. The back loop has more privacy and shade and we found that it usually had more open spots, but is farther from the beach.

Ray, nice photos!

Kevin & Barbara,
Will be on the lookout for you at Hunting Island!

There is one cabin @ the Light House the SP rents.

Here's a few shots from our January trip:

Hi Bill, Yes, we stayed in one of the cabins on the last year before the ocean claimed it. We have been staying up in Myrtle Beach SP for a few years but are looking forward to getting back to Hunting Island this New Years. Especially looking forward to going down as a retiree. Maybe we'll look to extend the stay a little longer!
