Lundbom Lake BC Rec Site
Lundbom Lake July 2016
Liz and I were up there 3 nights @ 12.00 / night (but nobody came by for our $ so it was free).
http://www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca/searc...e&site=REC1883
this is our second time @ Lundbom. Near Merritt off the connector between the Coq Highway and Kelowna. About 5 k of gravel and a bit of dirt road to our camp. Mostly single lane road. U have to look for places for room to pass oncoming traffic - Friday morning heading down we had to find ways to let 3 vehicles pass us (2 were truck + horse trailer combos).
We were up Tuesday/Thursday - leaving Friday morning in July - sites were available. wknds get quite busy with horse people and lots of ATVers.
(there I didn't keep this place a secret)

Thanks for sharing. That's the kind of place that we like, as opposed to an RV park or regimented campground. Nice easy distance from home too.

more Lundbom pics (out of about 300)
Lots of stars to view.
Of course it isn't all good.
This poor guy left his car in the wrong place. Of course notice the out of province Alberta plates ..... I felt sorry for him. We drove about another 5-k into the Rec Site to hike a hill and drove past this poor vehicle.

There are two primary camping areas: West and East Lundbom. We stay on the East Side which is more open range. I call the West Side area a fish camp. On one side of the lake (look for the trees along the lake) there are several other camping areas. Last year, our first experience on a BC Rec Site, the roads weren't marked 't and we turned right at a fork which led along the treed side of the lake. The road actually a dirt trail was steep, windy and very narrow. We drove a few minutes until we could tell we were going to be in trouble so we ended up backing up quite some distance. our Nissan is a 4x4 which comes in handy.
We had lots to learn. Some of the sites work best for a truck/camper combo - which we saw lots of. this last trip we drove without the trailer all around the lake. We wouldn't try it with our trailer. But having a cute little 17B makes it possible to get into many sites. (All those people buying 21's are restricting themselves

Slide-in truck campers seem less common than they were - I wonder if one reason for their continued popularity at this location, in addition to off-road ability, is that they work for someone towing a small horse trailer?

with your photography skills you guys would get great scenery and bird shots.
I'm one of those newly retired guys with a brand new camera who only knows how to use the presets and can barely centre a picture.

So, us lucky ones with 19's have the perfect size.

Wait 'till some composition expert tells you that you're not supposed to centre the subject in the frame! Personally, I'm happy to get anything which is interesting, and close to in focus.
I enjoyed the photos - thanks for sharing them.

I don't remember seeing truck/camper, horse trailer combos. That sounds like a nice idea though. I saw some big trucks with massive horse trailers. The truck/camper seemed to be used by people fishing - probably towing their boat.

The 17 is perfect for us when we are towing through small towns and looking for places to park. It also is perfect for fitting onto our yard at home. It's a takes a bit learning to back her up though. I do wish that it would instantly morph into a 19 when we have her set in place at a campground.

This Lundbom thread is the bomb!
I've driven through, but never stayed.
The more people at Lundbom the fewer at my favourite lake.

I'll wait for that expert. I do have a lot to learn for sure. But it sounds a bit like some expert telling me what kind of wine or Scotch I am supposed to like.
What I find interesting is that some of the simplest photos taken quickly with an IPhone are ones which mean a lot to me.
This pic was snapped by Liz along the Frazer Canyon about 2 years ago. Standing there taking in the view was when I decided I wanted to retire ASAP and do more of THIS

Thanks for the "share" and the pics -- I'm always grateful for pointers to these kind of campsites!
Is this a BC Forest Service, or timber company, site?
Since we went from a Boler 13 to our Escape 17, I guess you could say we succumbed to 4-footitis?! So now that I'm starting to wish for the 19, could I justify that as scaling down my expectations, cutting them in half?

We were really efficient; we just got 6 footititis going from our Scamp 13 to the 19.
Actually we went to ETI to put down our deposit for the 17, convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was perfect for us, made the mistake or saying, what the heck, let's just peek in 19 next to the 17 and.....
But the reality is that any of ETI's offerings are capable of using some nice spots that the monster RV's can't. And that's OK with us.

The truck & camper + horse trailer combination used to be popular... then the combo RV in front / horses in rear trailers (with fifth-wheel or ball hitch in the bed of a big pickup or medium-duty truck) became popular. Off-roading is out of the question with the big trailers.

Right - another good reason to use a motorhome or truck & camper instead of pulling a travel trailer.

Lundbom is a BC Forest Service site. I've stayed and fished there many times. It's a pretty nice spot too. If you drive to the far end and around there are a couple of really nice campsites on the point and along/near the shore. The only down side of this lake is that in the early spring and fall the wind comes up and it can really, really blow (think large white caps on the water). Camping up to Sept. is good but in Oct things take a turn an it gets really cold, with lake ice up usually by the end of October.
The majority of the truck campers are there because they're typically towing a 12' - 14' boat on trailer.

"Driven through" means you blew past on the connector - right ? Or did you drive up to the Lake, look at it and turn around ?
I have thought you would enjoy fishing there
