I'll keep this one going...
We use the Primus Amazon.com : Primus Toaster : Camping Toaster : Sports & Outdoors. Works great. Put it directly on the burner—low heat, add a slice of bread, wait about 30 seconds, flip the bread, wait another 30 seconds, enjoy perfect toast.

You have to be doing something wrong, with the camp a toaster,it only takes 30 seconds and is perfect unless the flame is very low,it might dry out the bread before toasting,or to high and it will burn fast. But in my experience the whole slice gets toasted evenly ,were the other ones never get the whole slice toasted. The main thing is that there is toast no matter how you do it.
And I agree bacon and eggs without toast is. utterly madness

While I do have an electric toaster for use inside when it's raining, I also use the Weber Q to make toast. Thought I was the only one. Actually, I've used the Q to make cornbread and to bake brownies.

A skillet works fine with a little butter in it. I always have a skillet with me.

I've always done it this way when camping. We cut a hole in the bread and "fry the egg in the hole." we call them "camp eggs." Eggs and toast at the same time - yum!

The whole from the bread also gets toasted and I usually add this on top of the egg. A family favorite for 50 years of camping.

A hot stove is important. I find putting that 5th slice on top helps hold the heat in. We never have the bread dried out. We usually use a light rye, and find it works great.

I eat bacon and eggs without toast all the time. I still have 15-20 extra pounds I am working on getting rid of, so have cut back on the carbs. Bacon now, that would be a tough one to give up.

If you're making toast for a group with one of these (or two of these), a nifty accessory is a $3 styrofoam tortilla warmer dish. We got ours at Smart and Final, a CA grocery type outlet. Keeps pancakes hot, too.

I'm always a but amazed that more campers/trailer owners aren't aware of this miracle gadget .
We have 2, the first from Colman must be some 15-20 years old and is a perminate fixture in our tent camping kit. Every time we are camping with others it becomes a great point of conversation. When we brought 7th Heaven home one of the first items we added was our new toaster
We also use ours for bagels too, and yes a low heat is a must to get the inside warm too

I've used the standard Coghlan or Coleman toasters over fires and stoves forever, but I've never been crazy about the results... and they always rust on the bottom.
What I found recently, and it's still a bit pricey, is this square 2 slice toaster: http://www.amazon.com/Grill-Stove-Toaster-Camping-Toast/dp/B007HRIYDY/
You need to do a bit of flipping and rotating, but like the results, and it's much easier to store (I hated fussing with the folding wires on the others). I figure it's worth the extra 6 or 7 dollars to get that hassle free, perfect toast in the morning.

Just tried this toaster out. Great results, if one makes an effort to flip bread every 60 secs or so. Toast while boondocking will be a treat.
Anybody have a line on a different non-electric toaster?

I also like the Primus toaster, but I still prefer firing up a cheap electric toaster using the inverter. Only uses around 6 amp hours to make a couple of English muffins...

You can also make toast by placing bread on a dry, hot skillet. One side at a time though.
We have used these but they take a long time to toast and dry out bread unless it is 1/2" thick. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Camco-510...1=g&wl2=c&wl3=

We do the same, yardsale. We don't do toast every day, but on the days we do, we follow up the toast with a little butter and scrambled eggs. The skilllet is already hot and the eggs take about 60 seconds.

We too have been using one of these toasters for many years now. It always does the trick, but for the most part toasted more at the bottom than the top requiring lots of turning to brown evenly. This was on a Coleman stove or the SMEV we had in our 19, both with not so big of burners. Now that I have the Dickinson range with a big burner, and the Camp Chef Ranger II also with big burners, this thing works like a charm. Toasts 4 slices in short order, and toasted quite evenly.
