That's why the surge protector is a very reasonable option. as well as a water pressure regulator.

Electrical novice

Wow!! You are all fantastic and the link is great. I will need to read all the posts two or three times to let some of the technical "stuff" sink in, but at least now I have a general (aka. layperson's) idea about the electrical system. Even though DH assured me all was "okay", I admit I'm more than a little wary of electricity and have always feared fires and such from doing something stupid. This discussion truly has alleviated a lot of my worries.
