Just read through this thread, interesting stuff… sort of. Anticipating a new TT complete with bathroom in the near future I came across this 15 minute video that I thought was the most informative and educational of any I have seen and thought I should share the link.
Hope you find it as helpful as I did.

That video shows how some large RV have a built in black tank rinse that you will not have in an Escape.

Think they changed to 19 in 2012 maybe but could be 2013.

I would imagine that ETI will install a Tornado tank flusher either post build or during the build if you supplied it and were willing to pay for the mod. We plan to just install one ourselves if we ever feel it's needed. The type that Jon mentions he installed in his 17 costs less than $50.

I don't think Reace will install one - I've been told he is uncomfortable with the hose type fittings at the tank end.
Not too tough a project for the 17, other than taking a drill saw to the shell!

I was wondering about that - I know Reace doesn't like putting any extra holes in those beautiful shells either. I guess I am unclear on why a black tank needs to be kept so pristine inside considering what it gets again right away with the next use?

I would think the issue is build up -- and a periodically "pristine" clean tank prevents problems. As for the hole in the shell, take a look at Jon's installation in the mods section of his blog. A tiny hose connector on the outside -- barely noticeable when you consider the massive holes cut out for the fridges or lockable storage doors.

It doesn't need to be pristine, but if stuff builds up on the inside it won't drain properly, and anything that sits in there for a very long time seems like an odour control problem to me. There is also the level sensing issue, if you would rather read lights than point a flashlight into the open toilet.
Due to its size and shape, the black tank in my motorhome doesn't drain properly and requires occasional wand work... even more than the built-in flusher can do. My current trailer's black tank is like an Escape's, and seems to work better.

I asked about the black tank rinse and Reace said "No", he wants no part of it.
Keeping the black tank well rinsed and as clean
As Posible helps with unwanted odors and keeps the sensors working properly.

Well I'm sure Reace has his reasons. We'll do without it, but may eventually install one as others have.

He did suggest that I could do it myself. He did not elaborate as to why he didn't want to do it.

You could always do it yourself. I do it all the time.
