National Forest Service/COE Camping Guides: Review

Recently ordered and received campground guides for the National Forest and Corps of Engineers. They are published by Roundabout Publications and copyrighted by Ted Houghton. Ordered them online through Amazon. They are less than $25 each and well worth it if you enjoy boondocking.

They appear to list all of the campgrounds nationwide for the two departments, with over 4000 FS campgrounds and over 900 for the COE.

Each campground entry has a lot of information, including: Total # of sites, number of RV sites, and services available. Possible services include water, sewer, dump, toilet, shower, with the actual services present specified. Maximum length, fees, permissible length of stay, reservations required or not, elevation and the normal season it is open. There is a phone number listed, as well as the nearest town. GPS coordinates are also listed.

The guides are reasonably easy to use. One first looks on a state map for a campground in the area of interest. Then look up the number(s) of the campground in the listing of campgrounds. It is possible to do a reverse search from the list back to the map, though it is general area only.

This Facebook group is about COE camping. They had to change the name for some reason.
