Do NOT try to trailer through Jerome. Really bad idea.
Even worse idea - follow your GPS' directions through Jerome.

Yah, when going east from Quartzsite last winter we thought we were smart trying to do the shortest route to I-40, which took us to Prescott, and then the GPS said to get to I-17 take 89A which, I realized totally too late, meant towing through Jerome. Yo, mamma! Now look, I don't think the people came out of the bars along the street just to watch us, because others ran inside to tell them something awful was about to happen, but it sure felt like it.

These three bins are well known in our county. They belong to my neighbor/ farmer. This year he put about 100 acres in a pheasant restoration set aside program adjacent to my yard. We're hearing a few roosters every night.

Is that an osage orange tree I see in the picture? And when do you intend to do some turf maintenance and deal with that creeping charley in the lawn? The lighting in the photo is low, so I'm only guessing.

We've been there a few times with an Escape trailer- no big deal unless you hit it during a busy weekend. There is an RV parking at one end of town.
If you get out that way don't miss Old Town Cottonwood at the bottom of the hill.

I once drove a Miata through the streets of Jerome, Tom. Even in that tiny car, the streets and turns were a little tight. Can't imagine trying to drive my full size truck through it while towing a trailer.

I drove through Jerome a few years back - finding parking on those crazy streets was fun! I had lunch at the hotel - the Asylum. I still have the t-shirt - "Abnormality is the Normality at this Locality." Very cool place, but my heart still belongs to Bisbee!

Tom, Jerome is an old mining town built on the side of a steep hill. It is visible from a great distance. The roads wind sharply up and down and parking is at a premium. Fun place though. Quirky bars, restaurants and shops. Great views!

Sunday Driver
Took a drive today to a state park about 30 miles east of our home. Drove the campground. It's about a 1973 GMC Birchaven. Looked to be in nice shape for 40+ Years old.
The cottage is on a rock outcropping about 80 feet above the river. It was owned by a local industrialist named Howard Hall. Cedarapids Rock Crushers. Etc.

We saw three of these on the road travelling together in October. This was in Oregon, and they all had California plates. All three were looking to be in excellent shape. I would love to get a look inside on, as they do look nice.

A friend of my brothers got ahold of a Travco
and pretty much disassembled it. He built up a big Dodge engine like a
440 and has it just about done including a new custom gel coat paint job.
He's been working on it for about three years in anticipation of retirement. I'm looking forward to seeing that one too. I admire these people. They have skills.

Nice. GMC Motorhome fans are at least as extreme as old Boler or Trillium fans... and have a much greater challenge in keeping the mechanical bits functional.

While the chassis design was innovative and the body was much nicer than the usual box-on-wheels, the interior was very typical 1970's RV style... which few would now find desirable. Of course, some people have done nice custom interiors (the project linked above has some nice work), but I've only seen tired stock interiors in person.

This guy my brother worked with had a 318 originally in his Travco, but some came
With 440s so the fit wasn't that hard to do, the cavity was there. I camped next to a
Travco at Yellow River state Forest in Iowa. It was robins egg blue. They came out of the camper and read in two lawn chairs for 30 minutes. Went back in and never saw them again till they headed out in the morning. That was in about 1982. The only other interesting motor home I've seen that I liked was a Vixen Rally. Nice

Poor GM-- they decided to get into the motorhome business in 1973, the year the Arab oil embargo hit. Needless to say, they didn't last long. It's a shame, because I remember how pretty they were. I think the motorhomes used the Olds Toronado drivetrain, so they were front-wheel-drive. A fully restored one would be really nice.
